A Suit That Fits: How to personalise the small details for your Groom
Following on from their previous post on how to find your perfect wedding suit, the team at A Suit That Fits thought you’d appreciate a few tips on how to accessorise his suit – accessories could also double up as thoughtful wedding gifts too!
How to wear a tie or cravat
Whether he wears a tie or cravat will depend on the style of suit he’s chosen. Traditionally, your Groom would wear a cravat with a morning suit (tails). A tie is more appropriate if your Groom’s wearing a lounge suit. If you’re jetting off for a destination wedding, it might be more appropriate for him to go without a tie or cravat and team a sharp suit with a dashing pocket square and a crisp shirt.
In terms of colour choices, your Groom should wear something that enables him to stand out from his Groomsmen – perhaps in a neutral colour whilst his Groomsmen co-ordinate with your Bridesmaids.
There are lots of different style options – it’s even possible to select a bespoke tie whereby your Groom chooses the width, colour and lining and the length of the tie is tailored based on his height.
How to wear a pocket square
Your Groom and his groomsmen should all be wearing pocket squares to finish off their look. They could choose a colour to match your bridesmaids or wedding colour scheme – a silk pocket square would ensure that they really feel special.
There are lots of different ways to wear a pocket square including popping it in casually and pulling the top out, ironing it into a square and popping it in, and there are lots of different pointed fold options. For a wedding, a sharp, ironed rectangle is great in lighter colours with bolder colours looking great popped in casually.
What cufflinks to wear?
Cufflinks are a great way to show off your Grooms personality – and they make a sharp (and useful) gift for his ushers too! Why not get him a special pair to give him on the morning of your wedding (engraved with the date of your wedding perhaps?).
Other nice accessories and little touches…
There are more stylish accessories that make perfect gifts. How about a pocket watch (they look great with a three-piece suit) to give him on the morning of your wedding? You could also treat him to a tailored laptop sleeve prior to the big day (what better way to entice him to help with the wedding admin!).
