Wedding for the Weekend: Emma & James’ Cool DIY Wedding
When we came across the wedding of Emma and James we just knew we had to share it with you. The couple DIY’ed everything from the guest book to the bouquets, centre pieces and even her bridesmaid’s dress and her own wedding dress on which Emma sewed 400 sequins and 400 Swarovski crystals.
“Every little detail was relevant to us as individuals and as a couple. We went out of our way to make sure our wedding screamed “US”! I.e James is in a band and loves music so our tables at the reception were named after our fav albums and instead of having a guest book we had guitars for people to sign which now hang in our living room! “
“The men’s suits were an easy choice. James lives in black and as he is so tall and slim, skinny fit suits were the only way to go! I wanted him to feel like him, and he never wears “shoes” so I suggested he wear his converse trainers. He always wears them on stage and suit his style much better than shoes! As for my dress, I thought that I wanted a tea length swing dress with petticoat but when I tried a few on I wasn’t bowled over. I spent a day walking round the vintage shops in Camden with one of my bridesmaids trying on all sorts of different styles. My dress was the last dress I tried on that day. We werent convinced when we saw it on the hanger, but when I came out of the changing room with it on we both knew it was “THE” dress! It fitted perfectly.”
“I just think black, white and red work really well together. I’m not a very girlie girl and thought those colours suited us. Everything mtched the colour scheme. Stationary, place settings, pom-poms, shoes, ties, bouquets! You name it! It matched! “
“I honestly can say the whole day was my fav bit! However, if I had to choose I would have to say the ceremony. I thought I was going to be sick with nerves but a calm descended on me in the morning and I wasn’t nervous at all! Also another favourite bit for me were the speeches and seeing the cake! We had left my friend Anmar of CRUMB free reign on our cake so the first time I saw it was just after the ceromony. I was so pleased with it I almost cried! I also quite enjoyed our drum & bass/ dubstep 2 hours at the end of the night!”
“James really enjoyed the speeches. He felt like at that part of the day he could relax and enjoy being married and everyone coming together and getting an insight into us as a couple.”
“My best advice for brides to be is to try not to leave everything until the last minute. I wanted to be able to enjoy that week run up rather than run around like a headless chicken. If people offer to help, let them!!!!! Don’t try and do everything yourself and dont worry about anything on the day. There are enough people around to to sort any little problems that might crop up. Just relax and enjoy it, the day goes so fast. Also, if your budget will allow for it, film it. We couldn’t afford for someone to do it so we asked family members to do it for us and they forgot. It went so quickly, its all a bit of a blur in my mind. I wish I could sit and watch it back.”
We would like to say a huge thank you to Emma and James for sharing their day with us and Natalie Cadman for sharing her awesome photography.
Much Bespoke Love
