The Ultimate Guide to a Shabby Chic Wedding!
A few months ago we featured a shabby chic inspiration board which proved to be pretty darn popular with you lovelies! So, we’ve decided to explore the idea a little more in depth by bringing you your ultimate guide to a shabby chic wedding!
This post will provide the how to do’s, where to buy’s & what colours work best when using shabby chic. Right, let’s crack on shall we?
Shabby Chic Colour Schemes
You have a lot of freedom when choosing a shabby chic colour scheme, generally they contain a lot of pastels accompanied with a nice deep colour to contrast and add to the ‘rustic’ feel.
To get your creative juices flowing we had a little search around our favourite colour scheme website ‘Design Seeds‘ to find our favourite colours for a shabby chic wedding!
This palette is perfect for the bride who wants ‘girly’ without too much over the top pink, it contains the classic pastel pink hues but is grouped with earthy colours to add a more natural feel to the day.
This colour scheme is probably the most popular palette we see being used for Shabby Chic. It’s feminine tones work together to create the perfect blend of pretty, shabby goodness!
Not a lover of pink? Fret not because you can still do shabby without it! Cool pastel blues and deep browns compliment each other well and you could even add a splash of gold for some extra warmth.
Again, for a more ‘earthy’ shabby chic theme you can use deep blues & greens accompanied with pastel purples & light lavender!
All in all, most pastel shades will work as long as you include some deep hues of that particular colour. Remember, you are trying to create a ‘distressed’ and ‘antique’ look so base colours like brown, grey & navy work best to contrast your pastels!
Where To Buy Shabby Chic Goodies
Ok, so there are seriously TONS of places online and offline that you could buy shabby chic things from but here’s a snippet of our favourite few!
♥ Notonthehighstreet.com – A massive online shop full of gifts for the bride & groom, ceremony decorations & cool signs!

Tying It All Together
We know how stressful planning a wedding can be and the main aim when doing so is to just relax and enjoy the process! We recommend choosing your colour scheme first and working from there! Buy bits and pieces as you’re going along or even create a check list of must have items to gradually tick off! If you are ‘DIYing’ the details then ask for some help, have regular get together’s with you and your bridesmaids to craft up some beautiful shabby chic things for your wedding! Get your groom on the case too…or just have him make you cups of tea while you do the crafty creative stuff 😉
We’d love to hear about your shabby chic wedding!

My only daughter is getting married next year at a beautiful rustic, shabby chic venue. Thank you so much for all your inspiration!!!!
I love your idea of getting all the bridesmaids together to help make some DIY decorations for a chic wedding. That should really help save money and at the same time make the decor really unique and personal. My sister is planning on getting a barn wedding and we want to make sure her wedding is as beautiful as possible despite our limited budget. I’ll see what I can do with finding a good barn wedding site for her and hopefully, our cousins will be willing to help her out with the decor.
