Friday Fashion: Introducing Liliia, Fairytales, Folklore and Nature…

Regulars of Bespoke Bride will know that we recently attended the Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza in Birmingham where we had a little catch up with the lovely Vikki Lafford the designer behind Liliia, where dresses inspired by fairytales, folklore and nature are born.

We have been huge fans of Liliia since we first met at the Alternative Wedding Show back last year, so now is a great chance to show what she has been up to since, these dresses are sure to amaze and inspire you…

Here is what Vikki had to say about her gorgeous collection…

“Like many young girls, I always dreamt of being a princess in a fairy tale, with sparkling crystal slippers and beautiful, flowing gowns of the most sumptuous fabrics, adorned with exquisite embroidery and embellishment. I imagined a world of faries and woodland creatures inhabiting the gloomy depths of the Cotswold countryside in which I spent my childhood.

My love of such folklore along with a passion for art and textiles was always a huge inspiration and it led me to achieve a degree in Embroidery in 2002. Following the degree I worked as an embroidery designer and in 2006 I returned to education and gained an MA in Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art and Design. There I created my first collection of dresses based on old, more brutal and sinister versions of popular fairy tales.

Now working as a designer-maker, I am still inspired by the fairy tales, folklore and nature I appreciated as a child. I create feminine, elegantly detailled, hand crafted clothing and accessories in luxury fabrics, adorned with intricate embroidery, Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls. I mix traditional hand stitch and hand painting with digital techniques of stitch and print. My work develops from initial drawings and studies and then passes through many processes of dye, print, stitch, cutwork and heat manipulation that focus on craft and attention to detail.”
