The Importance Of Your Relationship With Your Photographer
Hands up if you feel comfortable letting a stranger photograph you? Hands up if you feel more comfortable letting a friend photograph you? My bets are that there were a hell of a lot more hands on the second question. When you’re comfortable it shows in your photos, and who wouldn’t want to look comfortable and relaxed in their wedding photos?!
This shone through for me when I had the pleasure of photographing Kate & Brian’s wedding a few months ago (photos to follow tomorrow!) Kate made it clear from the beginning that she wanted to get to know me and often my visits up there to chat about their wedding resulted in me staying for a couple of hours, drinking tea, eating biscuits and getting to know the couple much better! This happened several times and by the time the wedding date was here I felt like I was photographing my friends wedding and I know they felt the same! It really was special and it’s so easy to see how comfortable they were in their photos!
Obviously this isn’t always possible, sometimes clients live far away and you can’t meet them a few times before hand, sometimes it’s too pricey to visit clients and I know a few photographers that charge for their visits but in my eyes it was worth it just to get to know such a fab couple and create a relaxed atmosphere on the day! I was even a little bit emotional at their wedding!
I guess your personality has a lot to do with it too, if you’re a confident and vibrant photographer it’s easy to bring the best out in people, make them laugh and relax them just through who you are! But if you hire a photographer that isn’t very chatty or a bit stern, I’m afraid your wedding photos may tell a different story?
What do you think? How comfortable do you feel around your photographer? I know so many amazing people in the business who really do make you feel like you’ve known them for ages when you meet them! I hope you’re thrilled with yours and that your relationship with them is a great one!
Much Bespoke Love

The same thing is true with your DJ as well. You should really “make friends” with all of your vendors–and treat them like VIPs on the wedding day, keeping them fed, happy, hydrated, etc.
