Alli & Nick’s Heartwarming Engagement Shoot
I’m not exaggerating when I say this is the most beautiful engagement shoot I have ever seen. The lighting, the character, the couple…I mean seriously, it’s STUNNING. I randomly stumbled across it a couple of weeks ago and emailed Carly Bish (the talented photographer!) straight away for the shots! She was kind enough to send them over and told the story of Alli & Nick in her own words…
“Alli+Nick are just that special kind of couple that people just seem to connect with them. I noticed it when we did their “first” engagement last March. I was in California to assistant shoot a wedding with a friend and while I was there, Alli, Nick, and I thought we’d squeeze in their engagement. That was in Malibu, where they originally were looking to have their wedding. They were still in the early planning stages of the wedding (as we were more than a year out from the date) and I was basically the only piece of the wedding that was a “for sure” deal. Even while shooting, I knew it was something special and while I normally wait until when the wedding is closer to share engagement photos, that was a session I just couldn’t keep to myself. When I shared those photos on my blog, the server went down for a couple hours–people just loved Alli+Nick. They have this charisma and charm that radiates in a photo. I mean, obviously they’re photogenic, but their chemistry is palpable and you just want to be around them. Alli has this quiet yet beautiful spirit and Nick is full of youthful energy that is contagious.”
“I knew they were going to be one of those couples that regular blog readers were going to be looking forward to seeing more from… So when I headed back to California last month to do a bridal shoot with Alli, I thought it would also be good to do a “refresher” engagement shoot. I mean, it had been over a year since their first one, and just mere weeks away from the wedding day, I thought, “Why not?!” So this time around, knowing more about Alli+Nick personally and knowing more about where the wedding was taking place, we decided to having a photo adventure of sorts… We started in Palm Springs where the very popular Ace Hotel is located. We enjoy an delicious lunch together and then went to use the Ace’s vintage photobooth. Alli+Nick have been together since high school and Alli has always been a documenter, always toting a film camera of her own just about wherever she goes. The number of photobooth slides these two have collected is pretty astounding and they even used them in their Save-the-Date. So I knew I had to document them doing their thing in an actual booth.”
“We stayed to take a few more photos around the Ace but the heat was getting to us pretty quickly, so we hopped back in our cars and headed into the desert. Obviously, the scenery was amazing and as we drove, we’d stop along spots that jumped out at me. As we drove, the scenery quickly turned from dry desert to lush, mountain-like terrain. We were headed to Idyllwild, where Alli+Nick’s venue was located.”
“Once we reached Idyllwild, the light was getting to that “sweet spot” and I knew I had to get some awesome photos of the two of them driving with the top down, which is Nick’s favorite thing to do in his Honda S2000 convertible. At one point, I found myself lying on the hood of the car while Nick drove down the road. It was quite the scene, but well worth it. We drove and drove and made our final stop just as the sun was about to disappear behind the skyline.”
“It was quite a day spent with two amazing people who I’ve come to call my friends. Their wedding was this past Saturday and just like their engagements, it was incredibly moving and special to document these two people in love.”
