Food DIY: How To Make A Yummy Banana, Biscuit & Vanilla Dessert In a Jar!
Did your mouth just water at the title? Because mine did! Believe me, once this delicious little treat hits your lips you wont be dissapointed! It requires a pretty minimum amount of effort too which means you could knock this up one morning and leave it in the fridge ready to be devoured later that evening or even the next day! YUM!
You will need:
♥ 1/3 cup of sugar ♥ 2 tbsp cornflour ♥ dash of salt ♥ 1 cup of extra thick double cream ♥ 1/2 cup whole milk ♥ 2 egg yolks ♥ 1 vanilla pod ♥ 1 tbsp unsalted butter ♥ 3 ripe bananas ♥ 2 tbsp orange juice ♥ 1 pack of chocolate biscuits ♥ electric whisk ♥ average sized mug/cup ♥ jars to serve ♥ chocolate sprinkles (optional) ♥ Saucepan ♥ Pastry brush ♥ Food bag
Step 1: Whisk together the sugar, cornflour and the dash of salt in a medium sized saucepan.
Step 2: Whisk in the cream and milk.
Step 3: Add the egg yolks then split the vanilla pod in half (using a knife) and scrape out the tiny seeds into the saucepan! Don’t substitute for vanilla extract or anything like that, these seeds have a great flavour and add a nice look to the dessert once they’re all whisked in!
Step 4: Pop the saucepan on the hob over a medium heat and continue to whisk constantly for 5 – 10 minutes. You should be able to feel the mixture getting quite thick by this point.
Step 5: Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the butter, stir vigorously for 2 minutes to release some of the heat.
Step 6: Spoon the mixture into a separate bowl and place in the fridge for at least one hour.
Step 7: Chop up the bananas and pour a small amount of orange juice into a glass, then gently glaze the bananas in the orange juice.
Step 8: Put the bourbons or whichever chocolate biscuits you chose into a plastic bag and smash them up with a wooden spoon or rolling pin!
Step 9: Jars at the ready! Sprinkle some of the crushed biscuits into the jar, then add a few slices of banana and top off with a couple of dollops of the mixture (once cooled)
Step 10: Repeat until the jars are full and decorate however you like! I popped a few chocolate sprinkles on the top then used some leftover material to ‘lid’ the jars!
