Katie & Niall: A Vintage Travel Themed Wedding
Katie and Niall’s wedding is right up my street.
Firstly Katie’s wedding dress is so beautiful and that neckline is extremely flattering! Having a slightly larger bust I am alway obsessing over necklines and how they will flatter my shape. Secondly I am in love with their travel theme. Both myself and Mr T are keen fans of travel (although we don’t do it as much as we both would like), so I imagine that our theme will one day be something like this.
I also really love the unusual cake topper on their beautiful wedding cake. My opinion on cake toppers is a little hit and miss but these are so darn cute!
Over to Katie to tell us all about her day…
We married at Lyrath Estate in Kilkenny on the 3rd May.
I wore a gold bracelet and ring that belonged to my Nana that was my “something old and borrowed”.
My dress was from Tamem Michael in Ballymount, I spotted it in a wedding magazine and knew that I had to have it. It was the first dress that I tried on and nothing else compared. I wore also wore some gorgeous Karen Millen shoes.
I had four bridesmaids all dressed in the same colour but the style differed on each slightly, these were Dessy from bcouture in arklow. Niall had four groomsmen and we made sure their ties matched the bridesmaids dresses.
Niall was dressed by a lovely gent in House of Fraser, his suit was from Howick Tailored and Shoes were Paul Smith.
We had a travel theme for the wedding because we both love to travel and over the last 10 years we have travelled to all sorts of places together. We got engaged at the end of 4 months travelling in Rio in Brazil. The theme was aided by some borrowed vintage suitcases and all the artwork that was completed by my brother.
We wanted the decor to look natural and relaxed, the flowers were really noticeable as they looked as though they had just come from my mum’s garden, the florist did an amazing job of really making them stand out in the church. The detail of her bouquets was fab, even the boy’s button holes were like miniature bouquets. The flowers on the tables for dinner were in jugs like and the tea cup candles were all homemade.
I had a few DIY details, the escort cards for the guests, were a group effort with two of the bridesmaids helping to make and write them and get it set up in the suitcase, the candles in the tea cups for dinner were all homemade and scented with lavender to keep the relaxed, chilled atmosphere and the invitations we designed by my brother and to look like a postcard with lots of pictures from our travels and life together.
Our photographer Tanya, was so un-intrusive and documented the day as it happened, exactly what we were looking for; the pictures say it all really and will be something we will treasure for ever.
If I could give any advice to couples getting married in the future it would be to switch off completely from lunchtime the day before and just let everything happen. You have spent all the time you need to planning and organising at that point and whatever happens, happens from there – it will be amazing!!
