A Beautiful and Dreamy Woodland Wedding in South Africa
We were so shocked to hear that Tessa and Pierre only had 5 weeks between their engagement and their wedding day! 5 WEEKS and they still managed to pull off an outstandingly beautiful wedding with rustic and woodland details. Both being married before they wanted to ensure that their children played a big part in their special day and we think they did it perfectly! Over to Tessa and Pierre for them to tell you all about their elegant and fairy tale wedding…
The wedding was held at The Country House Plettenberg bay, we fell in love with the place after spending a weekend at Tsala, another lodge on the property, earlier this year. It’s a truly magical place and completely lends itself to the perfect, intimate, magical and exclusive feeling we wanted for our special day with a select few that shared in our journey over the past two years.
For us being both of our second weddings it was important that our kids was part of our special day. The fact that our kids signed as witnesses and the lighting of our family candle and the symbolic becoming one family and taking each others as our own I will always cherish.
I am blessed that my best friend since the age of 6, Jana, owns a wedding venue Slipperfields, and she knew I wanted an elegant & vintage rustic feel. We literally just discussed the type of colours I would like and the rest was really Jana creating my vision and this just added to the magic of that day as it was also symbolic of a lifetime of friendship that she understood me so well to create something that was just absolutely everything I wished for! Jana brought in some special items of her own and the staff and especially Sam from the Country House was also more than helpful in really allowing us to make use of all the beautiful decor items they had.
Our photographer Erna Loock could not have captured our journey from engagement with our slightly different pre wedding ‘family’ shoot, as this is both Pierre and my 2nd marriage to our enchanting wedding day any better! Erna’s photography captures true natural moments and gives note to detail that can so easily be missed in the rush of the day. We just love her!
We decided to go with an amazing dessert table, with cheesecake (that I am sure the chef at The Country house, has a secret recipe called “best cheesecake in the world”) Chocolate brownies, individual carrot cakes and Italian Vanilla Ice Cream. For us this made a stunning feature on a lovely mirrored side board and one of the Country Houses many priceless antiques and offered variety to our guests. We really wanted to be unconventional and only influenced by what we as a couple value, love and enjoy. This is then also why we went with the Lumineers – Ho Hey as the song we walked down the aisle on. And even though we decided to not have a dance floor with an opening dance I surprised hubby and guests, after the main course was served, with the instruction from the song Blurred Lines to follow me to a nearby section that was setup with candles and the music that played over the Country Houses surround sound.!
The kids was our bridal party and was dressed in the way I believe kids dress smart, still looking like kiddies. Like my mom use to dress me for church back in the day. Their outfits was really a mix and match from several retailers.
My dress was made by a very popular local designer Leandra from LDesigns in Port Elizabeth. Originally she made it for our local Bridal Fair so I was very lucky that I could find my perfect dress and hire it, especially because there was only 5 weeks between our engagement and our wedding day. Leandra just altered my dress here and there to make it perfect for me. While Pierre found the perfect suite from Heinz Instyle that has really been the grooms vendour of choice for years here in Port Elizabeth.
All parties involved stood out from The Country House and staff, Jana from Slipperfields, Juan Joubert Hair and Beauty, ( that travelled on the day from PE – love you guys), LDesigns, Goodwin Jewellers, Heinz In Style and Erna Loock photography.
“Our advice to future couples getting married would be to spend your special day with the few that truly love and know you both equally and celebrate but don’t waste money that could pay to make new dreams come true!”
