A 1940’s Parisian Styled Shoot
You may have noticed over the past few weeks that we have been out and about visiting a ton of wedding shows. It is something we try to do every year as not only do we want to tell people about the best shows around but quite frankly we like to have a natter.
The first show we visited this Autumn was the Ellis Wedding Show and this is where we came across the extremely lovable Lucy G Photography. On her stall was this gorgeous Photo and I was instantly drawn to it.The photo was the result of a collaboration between two fabulous businesses Strange Case Collective and Victoria Rose.
“I loved this shoot so much! We had and incredible team who made an idea I had in my head come to life and make it more amazing than I thought possible, the Neighbourhood Café was a perfect venue and Sophie and Laura from Strange Case Collective made the shoot come alive. The styling from Kerryn of are fantastic models was perfect and helped polished the whole look. My style of photography is very relaxed and informal, I wanted the photography on the day to reflect this and made sure the models had lots of fun”, said Lucy
To my surprise Lucy had never featured it anywhere and I just knew how much our readers would love it so I kindly asked if we could have the pleasure and luckily for us she agreed! Here is what the ladies had to say about the inspiration behind the shoot…
The shoot was brought together by Strange Case Collective (3D Design Company) and Victoria Rose (Vintage Crockery Hire) after meeting in the beautiful Neighbourhood Café, Liverpool for coffee. Neighbourhood, which is tucked away in the leafy area of Woolton, is a hidden gem of Liverpool. Full of character and quirky features from its time as a greengrocers over sixty years ago, we decided that the venue was the perfect setting.
We wanted to shoot a low-key, intimate styled shoot, showcasing the work of a great team of suppliers. Our concept was to re-create the excitement and love of a young couple wanting to catch an hour of time together on their big day, alone. With the concept of a ‘First Look’ becoming more popular in the UK, with more and more couples seeing each other for some time together before they walk down the aisle, this gave us the perfect opportunity to try something different and style a shoot to capture this time.
Taking inspiration from our stunning location, the feel of a Parisian café and a beautiful album of 1940’s wedding photos found by Strange Case Collective, it was decided. Our 1940’s inspired first look shoot was born.
“I am a regular at Neighbourhood Café and have wanted to shoot something there for a long time. It is a stunning restaurant with so much detail. As soon as we mentioned the shoot to owner Lynne, she was more than happy to give us free reign of the place and got just as involved in the process as we did.
A couple of weeks before meeting Victoria I found a beautiful album of photographs of my Nan in the late 40’s. It was full of photos of her as a bridesmaid for her sister, who was marrying her American soldier sweetheart. I had been dying to get stuck in to something 40’s inspired and when we met Victoria, it seemed the perfect theme. Working in the wedding industry, we are lucky to work alongside some fabulous suppliers and with them all loving the theme, our team was in place”, said Sophie.

Useful Tips for Planning a 1940’s Parisian Styled Shoot
Planning a 1940’s Parisian styled shoot is like stepping back into a time when fashion, romance, and mystery were all wrapped up in the city’s cobblestone streets. To truly capture that era, it’s all about the details—and trust me, they’re everything.
First, the location. You want something that feels authentically Parisian, even if you’re not in Paris. Don’t forget the café chairs and checkered tablecloths! Set up a table with wine and croissants, and you’ve got yourself a scene that feels straight out of a 1940s Parisian café.
Lighting is the final touch. Soft, warm tones, maybe even a little sepia filter to give it that old film look. With the right mix of vintage charm, romance, and just a touch of mystery, your Parisian styled shoot will have everyone swooning.
