Top Wedding Trends 2014: We Ask the GlosWed Experts
Can you believe that we are already one week into December? Before we know it, the new year will be upon us with lots of new fashion trends to try. I don’t know about you but for me this is one of the best bits about the a new year, new trends, new fashions, some replayed and renewed. Now you know us and we would never tell you to follow trends but we would certainly look to them for inspiration. Putting your own unique spin on a trend is what makes it you, it’s what makes it doable, wearable and personal.
So as we get ever closer to the new year we have asked a number of stylists from a recent GlosWed tweetup their opinion on the trends and fashions to look out for in wedding style next year, as well as giving us a little peak into what will be inspiring them in 2014 with their very own styled tables.
Over to the stylists…

“‘Life is Sweet’ The table came into life after Ruth was asked to style a table for a photo shoot with Fishee Designs for The Weird and Wonderful Wedding show next April and House of Bunting came along and styled the backdrops. The theme was Willy Wonka and a lot of the items used were used for the shoot, however we developed the theme further with our amazing candyfloss tree and by adding our own ribbon backdrop behind the table that works brilliantly for top tables! The whole thing was about creating something fun, extraordinary, colourful and completely different!”

“‘All That Glitters is Not Gold’ –The inspiration came from the gorgeous gold mercury glass candlesticks from Cotswold Vintage Party Hire. As soon as Tricia had shown them to me, I knew I wanted to create a long table scape using them along with petals and tea lights to create a runner effect. Using gold as my colour scheme, I soon came up with images of a sequin cloth (which, is a strong style coming across from America for next year) and gold cutlery and with the overall effect of luxury and opulence. With the help of some amazing suppliers we were able to create just that.”

“My inspiration was the request from 2014 brides for a wedding day colour palette of soft peach, nude and cream tones. The colour is a sophisticated blend of modern, classic elegance & the soft array of peach and cream blend beautifully to create a luxurious & decadent table arrangement, a stunning elegant wedding cake and sophisticated personalised stationery – It is easy to see why peach has become one of the hottest colour trends for next year!”

“My inspiration was pulled straight from the BBC’s ‘The Paradise’ capturing the feel of wealth in the 1870’s with Lace, Candelabras & bone china, which I’ve collected over the past two years. ‘Fiona Perry Floral Designs’ worked magic with the flowers. ‘Table to Dine for’ provided the luxurious linen & lace. Marie Green Cakes dressed the cake stands with delicious dainty treats and Melanie’s Designs provided the place settings. I then added a twist with my modern fortune cookie favours. Never one for following trends I hope brides to be will choose themes because it’s something they love with personnel touches to enhance their day. I can see navy being a big colour next year, as well Coral being mixed with the traditional pinks & nudes which always remain a classic.”

“Inspired by scenes of Narnia, the Winter Woodland is magical! Indulged with candlelight glowing through vintage glass vases and trailing “crystals” and a focus wreath of woodland ivy and white twisted willow above. The vintage place settings look more fashionable by just being in two colours, white and green with decorated glassware and green stemmed glasses on a “fur” cloth. I think 2014 will hold less vintage teaparties and have more Downton Abbey, Gatsby and period drama inspired occasions with more emphasis on glassware as a growing popularity for one and two colour wedding schemes + added glitz with gold! We are looking to more theme inspired events, playing on the theatrical.”

“With fresh inspiration from a recent trip to France our table was styled with a French Chateau in mind. Fiona Perry Flowers created a stunning centrepiece using a slate grey/blue palate of Hydrangea, Pink O’Hara Garden roses, Eucolyptus & Viburnham tinus berries to create the loose unstructured arrangement representing the faded French Chateau feel of the table linen.
The linens needed to reflect an opulent french style so French linen was selected for the table overlay and Chiavari Chair Caps. Thick Duchess Satin undercloths in ivory created a generous base and a further floaty cloth & napkins in Duck Egg Crepe added drama.
The Vintage Hire company laid the table using crystal glassware, Champagne saucers, wine decanters and silverware and we added just a little sparkle on the napkin rings for a touch of bling!
Predicting trends can be very difficult as each bride has a different vision for their day but we’re finding our new feature linens in satins, feathers and sequins are getting a lot of interest so hopefully we’ll be seeing a bit of Luxe for 2014!”

Hello, just discovered you guys and love your website! I too love the ‘Life is Sweet’ table. I might even use it as inspiration for a new set of wedding stationery 🙂
Life is Sweet reminded me of a bespoke invitation I made that was a very bright photo of hundreds and thousands. They didn’t carry it right through the wedding but it was when sweetie booths just hit the UK so really ‘wowed’ guests.
I just finished a course in flower arrangements and wedding decor course so I’m looking to get inspired.
