Meet Craig Dearsley; Creative Photographer. Fantastic Friend. And An All Round Awesome Human Being
If you’ve been a reader of Bespoke Bride for a while then you’ll know that Craig Dearsley is one of our absolute favourite photographers in the world! Why you ask? Is it because of his charismatic beard? Or the fact he has one of the coolest (and cutest!) families in the world? Well sure, that helps, but mostly it’s because of his ability to capture people’s pure emotion and personalities on camera.
Way back in February this year we had a photo shoot with Craig on the beach at Weston (yes…we know….the beach…in February…it was cold.) Now you may not think this but me and Emily are pretty camera shy, well point a camera at us and we’re all ‘oh god! Act naturally! Wait what should we do? Should we smile? Should we look at the camera? Is my hair doing something weird? Must. Stop. Slouching.’ But luckily for us, Craig was our photographer, which meant it was actually a day of fun and laughter and feeling completely relaxed in front of the camera. He was brilliant at directing us, capturing us naturally and making us feel at ease! Something I know, brides and grooms will want to feel on their wedding day! Am I right? We caught up with Craig so you lovely people could get to know him a little better too…
Heya Craig, how’s everything with you at the moment? All ready for Christmas?
Hello, I am great, I have had such a great year, I am feeling really motivated and excited for 2014. Do you know for the first time ever we have totally nailed Christmas, I am feeling rather relaxed and festive (and smug).
Tell our readers a little bit about yourself….
I’m Craig, a creative portrait/wedding photographer living in the suburbs of west London with my lovely little family.
I am tall, beardy and my wife says that I’m over-organised (if that is such a thing!).
I absolutely adore taking photos and have fallen in love with shooting weddings, the anticipation and excitement really makes me smile from ear to ear. I enjoy the whole experience from the moment I find out the plans to my couples reaction when they receive their pictures.
If you could describe your photography style in 3 words, what would they be?
Crisp, Touching and Beautiful.
What do you offer to future couples looking for a photographer??
I offer wedding photography for the couple looking for creative, lasting memories of their special day. I am a big fan of experimenting with couple’s creativity, but I also strongly believe it is very important to capture the more traditional moments. I want future generations to look back at the pictures and say, OMG guys, you kicked ass!
My standard full day wedding package includes coverage from bridal prep to party time (usually well into part time) and all images supplied to the couple on a disk or if preferred a USB flash drive, the 2014 price for this package is £750. I also offer fancy stuff like, photo booth, prints, albums etc, all of which can be found on the shiny new website.
What makes you unique as a photographer?
I think what makes me different is that I am me, we all look at things in a different way and this is what gives each individual their own style. I believe when choosing a photographer it is important to choose them for their style and personality. Nowadays there is so many great ways to communicate with photographers before you make your decision.
I have a very organised approach to my photography, I ensure there is plenty of communication prior to the wedding, this helps me determine what the couple are looking for. This really helps on the day because it reassures the couple that the photography is under control giving them one less thing to worry about. I have been told on more than one occasion during bridal prep that I am a calming influence.
Why are you just what our readers are looking for?
I am actually a massive fan of the Bespoke Bride Blog, it is one of the few blogs I read on a regular basis.
I know as a wedding photographer I am supposed to say this, but I genuinely LOVE shooting weddings. I love hearing the plans and seeing it all come together, I love seeing all the nerves and anxiety during bridal prep, I love seeing the joy and pride throughout the day, I love seeing everyone relax in the evening, but most of all I love being part of this whole journey and capturing it through my lens!
Last of all, what’s new Craig? Do you have any exciting projects in the pipeline??
This week has seen the launch of my shiny new website and branding, I am really excited about this. After attending the Blogcademy workshop back in September, I soon realised that my branding needed a freshen up and lucky for me I am married to a graphic designer. It has been quite a project, but I am really pleased with how it has turned out. If you get a few spare minutes, get over there and have a look!
The website looks bloody brilliant to us and we really cannot emphasise this enough guys, CRAIG IS AWESOME. He’s an awesome creative, an awesome photographer and most of all an awesome human being.
P.S The best news is, he’s based in South East England but is willing to travel anywhere!! Yay!
Be sure to keep up to date with him on his Facebook and Twitter too!
Much Bespoke Love
