Wedding DIY: Three Simple Valentines Cards
If you don’t do Valentine’s day then look away now because today’s DIY is all about getting loved up and presenting your other halves (or admirers of course?) with these touching handmade valentines cards.
I love Valentines Day! I know some say you shouldn’t need a day to show your loved one how you care for them but I kinda like that we do. There is really nothing wrong with it, however I will say I totally don’t buy into all the commercial bulls**t that comes with it. I would much rather put thought and feeling into my Valentines gift than money so this is where todays guest posters Strange Case Collective come in, as they will be showing us how to create these cute little DIY cards. They are super quick and super easy so they really isn’t much excuse to not try them out is there?
MINI HEARTS VALENTINE…
Step 1. You will need: plain card/ Heart Paper Punch or scissors/ Glue/ Offcut of red glitter card/ Book pages (Don’t go ripping pages out of books, that would make me cry, we use damaged books or pages that have fell out – Charity shops are a great place to find them!)
Step 2. Using your heart punch, stamp out twenty eight hearts using your book pages. (If you don’t have a heart punch, make a template and cut out your own.) We used a damaged copy of Romeo and Juliet. I tried to stamp around words that stood out, such as Romeo, Juliet and love.
Step 3. Stamp out two hearts using your offcuts of glitter card.
Step 4. Arrange all of the hearts onto your card in rows of 5. You can rejig this if your card is a different size. Once you have them arranged glue them all in place and your card is finished.
Now on to the next…
THE FLUTTERING HEART…
Step 1. You will need: One plain card/ A piece of card with a drawn on heart – this should be smaller you’re your main card/ Scissors/ Pencil/ One sheet of crepe paper, we went for pink/ Glue/
Step 2. Cut strips of crepe paper, no thicker than two cm. Once you have your strips, cut into them to make a fringed effect.
Step 3.Take your piece of card with the heart drawn on and turn it over so the blank side is what you can see. Starting from the bottom, glue each strip onto the card, overlaying each strip a little higher as you go.
Step 4. Keep layering until completely covered.
Step 5. Once the glue has dried, turn over the card.
Step 6. Carefully cut out your heart. If the fringe is flat, simply bring it to life by gently brushing the fringe upwards. If any come away, glue them back on.
Step 7. Glue your heart to the card.
Step 8. Leave to dry and Voila you are all done!
And finally…
THE ARROW
Step 1. You will need: One plain card/ Heart Punch or scissors/ Pencil/ Three cocktail straws/ Glue/ Red glitter card/ Silver glitter card/
Step 2. Using your scissors cut your straws in half.
Step 3. Using your heart punch, stamp three hearts in the red glitter card.
Step 4. Draw out an arrow end for your arrow on the silver card. Cut them out and fold them down the centre.
Step 5. Glue one heart and one arrow end to each straw.
Step 6. Once they have dried, glue each arrow to your card.
Step 7. Leave to dry.
Right now all you have to do is find three valentines… A girls can dream right?? Happy Valentines…Mwah!
