An Intimate Beach Wedding – Angela & Tyler
Angela and Tyler’s beach wedding is simply stunning, it will have you dreaming of long hot summers by the beach for days to come.
I love how the beautiful pinks, peaches and creams pop so well against the white sand and clear blue sea. As Angela describes the beautiful house on the beach was perfect for the intimate setting the couple had chosen and their first ‘non-look first look’ will make your heart melt.
Photographer Crystal George has done such an amazing job of capturing this couples day, the shots of the couple at sunset have really captured this couples personality and relationship with each other, they really are very touching.
We have both always loved the beach, so from the start of our wedding planning I knew our ideal was to get married on the beach. Our mothers searched the coast of North Carolina and found us a beautiful house in Emerald Isle, the perfect venue for the intimate wedding that we wanted.
I found my dress at Church Street Bridal, the first and only shop I went to. I was ecstatic because I had been sure I would be the bride who couldn’t find the perfect dress. To make it all the sweeter, Church Street donates 100% of their proceeds to women and children who are victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. I collaborated with the brilliant owner/seamstress at the Gilded Thimble to make the dress uniquely mine. We made the veil from pieces of my dress and a “something old” brooch my sister had tucked away in her jewelry box. And with that, my wedding day look was complete.
You could say that I was the poster child for the DIY bride. My family may have secretly wanted to kill me, but they sweetly spent hours hemming napkins, collecting vintage bottles for the centerpieces, hand painting signs, and searching high and low for classic soda to give our wedding the retro chic look we wanted.
We decided a single day wasn’t worthy of the beginning of a lifetime together, so we planned a weekend wedding celebration. Boogie boarding, laying out on the beach, shopping in the local shops, a movie night, and an endless smorgasbord of home cooked food kept us happy as clams. A major highlight was going on a catamaran cruise with all of our wedding guests after the rehearsal dinner. As fortune would have it, the only night the ship was available was on our rehearsal night. And that night was a full moon. Once we were on the catamaran, we realized not only was it a full moon, but a perigee full moon that only happens once a year. Which made the evening even more magical.
My husband-to-be and I had decided not to see each other the day of the ceremony –which was tricky when it came time for our “non-look first look” pictures – so I almost had a bridal meltdown when I realized we had forgotten to practice the knot tying ceremony the night before. My wedding/life coordinator a.k.a. my sister, came to the rescue. She had a short knot tying lesson with Tyler, learning both parts, and then proceeded to teach me my part on our quick trip to the florist.
My bridesmaids and I watched from behind the curtains as the rest of the bridal party gathered on the deck laughing and exchanging last minute hugs. It wasn’t until I was walking down the long stairs and over the dunes arm-in-arm with my mother that I realized I was actually getting married! Absorbed in the exchange of vows, Tyler and I didn’t find out until later that one of the flower girls was almost carried away by the seagulls as she happily munched on a cracker during the ceremony. We were afraid that our guests might be washed away by the tide coming in, but it held off until minutes after the ceremony ended, even allowing us to have time for some fun family pictures.
Another memory was created when my husband and I walked over a large dune for photos with Crystal George, our fantastic photographer. A house full of beach goers came out on their balcony and cheered for us like we were celebrities. They seemed as excited as we were that we had just been married.
The reception went by in a whirl of laughter, candlelight, food and dancing. We enjoyed the moments with our family and friends and couldn’t believe when it was time to say goodbye. A sparkler-filled sendoff was the perfect bon voyage for our honeymoon cruise to the Bahamas.
Our families stayed at the house after we left to enjoy a well-deserved beach vacation.
