A Purple Wedding Dress For a Backyard Wedding – Tina & Jared
If there is one thing I adore, then it is a colourful wedding dress and it is because of this I am so excited to share today’s real wedding with you, as the bride wore purple! Tina’s love of classic movies and vintage style was the inspiration behind her beautiful bespoke gown, which I can’t help but feel has Marilyn Monroe-esque quality about it.
Tina and Jared’s wedding has to be one of the most personal weddings we have ever featured on this blog. The couple chose to hold the ceremony at 100 year old home, filled with vintage furniture from their loved ones and complete with memories. Now that is something really special dont you think?
I also love Tina’s honesty about planning her wedding, although it is meant to be the happiest times of your life, planning a wedding doesn’t always come without stresses and worries so it is refreshing to hear someone being so open about their own planning fears.
Although I can honestly say Tina needn’t of worried – this is one hell of a beautiful wedding!
Tina: “Jared was ready to get married almost right away. I, on the other hand, wasn’t thrilled with the idea of planning a wedding. Being a bridesmaid one too many times had put a damper on wedding planning. About two years after he gave me the ring, I decided it was time. I was ready to elope, but one day Jared told me how proud he was of our relationship and me and the life we had built together. A man of few words, I knew this was important to him, so I tried my best to put anxiety aside and make this thing a reality. We decided to have everything at our home for a couple reasons. First, I knew it would present some challenges, but ultimately this is the place I feel most comfortable. Second, almost everyone coming to our event was from out of town. This might be the only time they make it to St. Louis for many years or even in their lifetime; we wanted to take the opportunity to share this very intimate part of our life with all our loved ones.
I knew I wanted to incorporate some vintage elements into our day. It seemed appropriate; our home is over 100 years old and filled with vintage furniture and items that have meaning to us. The majority of our furniture came from family members, passed down and loved by us now. I love lace. We have some old lace tablecloths that belonged to my grandmother. Using those for the tables and some acquired from estate sales was an easy decision. I decided on the silver pieces for the table after seeing some photos. I bought items here and there, if I thought they were cheap enough, and my friend did all the plants and put it all together.
I had known for a long time, regardless of what kind of wedding we ended up having, that I wasn’t interested in wearing a white dress. That just didn’t seem to suit me. I wanted to wear something I knew I’d be comfortable in and could potentially wear again. I eventually found a dressmaker through etsy who had a style I liked. I watch a lot of classic movies and one night saw a dress worn by Marilyn Monroe that spoke to me. The dressmaker, Charlotte from Pixie Pocket, designed the top of the dress to mimic Marilyn’s dress. The rest was Charlotte’s signature style, complete with petticoat. It took me awhile to land on the purple color, which was a decision I made about two months out. I did most of my shopping through etsy. Jared’s suit, my necklace, the cake topper, our rings, the bouquets and boutonnieres, our favors, and our gifts to each other and friends and family were all acquired through the delightful etsy community.
I have always felt that the main reason to have a wedding is to gather your support system around you and officially state that from now on when you support “me” you support “us”. In the end, we accomplished that goal with a truly memorable day. We couldn’t have done it, and I wouldn’t have survived it, without the love and support of so many talented, remarkable people.”
I think Tina and Jared should feel immensely proud of all the hard work they put into their wedding day. It can only be described as one of the most memorable wedding days and we will not be forgetting it in a hurry.
