A 1950’S Rockabilly Wedding With The Coolest Car Couch Ever!: Cara & Mike
You can tell from Cara and Mike’s rockabilly styled wedding that this is a couple that know how to have fun and they aren’t afraid to show it!
Their whole wedding is a reflection of their personalities, from their love of the 1950’s and vintage cars to pin up and statement decor, even their more sensitive sides have been incorporated into the day with special touches like quotes and images to honour loved and lost ones that couldn’t be there to share in their special day.
I really love this wedding not just because I too share a secret passion for old vintage cars, (my dream is to own a pink Cadillac) but I have have totally fallen in love with Cara and Mike, I love their confidence, their humour, their style. They really are the most wonderful, laid back couple!
Here is Cara who wants to tell you her story and share some of her top notch advice…
We have always loved the 1950s style. Rockabilly, awesome cars, and pinup girls! If we lived back then we would definitely be in with the greaser crowd, not the squares lol!
We chose to have our wedding at the Belvedere. We absolutely loved it as they have a very neutral color scheme so we were able to really make the space our own, we used the front area for cocktail hour which was really cool and different. Mike’s stepmother is an event planner so we let her have free reign to decorate and she did an AMAZING job! She did all of the centerpieces, draping, up lighting, the checkered dance floor, the huge black and white photos, and that awesome car couch. We were blown away!
I couldn’t possibly choose just one favourite moment from our day! Everyone had such a blast! The dance floor was packed all night and our family and friends are an amazing group of people. I hate to gloat but it was the funnest wedding ever.
There are a few pieces of advice I would like to pass along to other couples planning their wedding that I learnt along the way. The first would be to not micromanage! You will drive yourself nuts! We were lucky enough to have amazing family and friends who helped with anything we needed. My advice is, if you don’t have the help make sure you allow yourself enough time to get it done without stressing out.
I would also say if you are looking for a vintage car like we had, don’t bother spending a ridiculous amount of money renting one. We went to a local car show and talked to some of the car owners and asked if they wanted to drive us for our wedding. Vintage car owners LOVE to show of their babies. He refused to let us pay him! He was more than happy to do it for us and his car was in better condition than a lot of the ones we saw that you could rent.
Lastly I would say go with the flow. Things can and probably will go wrong. The worst thing you can do is go all Bridezilla and freak out. We are a very laid back couple and when things didn’t go as planned we didn’t let it bother us. Our family members were freaking out about things more than we were!
Never let ANYTHING ruin your big day! The only thing that’s important is your love for each other.
