Mutual Weirdness Forever: Joylnn & Ronnie
Todays wedding pretty much had me at the hello. As soon as I spied the words ‘Minion’ and ‘Rainbow’ I knew I was going to fall in love – hard!
‘Mutual Weirdness Forever’ was the theme for Joy and Ronnies wedding day who were married at The Mill at Fine Creek in central VA. I was so impressed by how determined this couple were to inject every single aspect of ‘them’ into their wedding. There was a splash of vintage, a sprinkling of geek chic and lashings of colour, all topped off with romance – it is easy to tell just from the photographs, how utterly in love Joy and Ronnie are with each other.
I invited Joy to tell you all about her wedding and I think you might be interested to hear just how a humble pair of her husbands socks manage to inspire the theme of the whole day…
“Long before Ronnie and I were actually at the point of wedding planning we had those “one day” conversations. It was during those that we started to realize that the most important thing to us was to be unique, but not just for the sake of unique, we really wanted to represent us. We knew nearly a year before our engagement that two of the most important details to us would be the officiant and the groom and groomsmen outfits.
Our officiant was Ronnie’s high school best friend. Making this choice symbolized for us that this day was special and private and meant to shared with those most dear to us in the most genuine ways possible.
Ronnie chose the groomsmen outfits based on his own quirky style. Knee socks are a Ronnie staple! We knew that the only way Ronnie could truly enjoy our day was if he got to experience it in his own version of dressed up. It was because of the outfit choice that we decided on the color scheme, which ended up morphing into the theme of the wedding, I even had a friend add a rainbow tulle petticoat to my dress. Multicolor and mutual weirdness sprung from who we are! We wanted our guests to feel like they were celebrating us in our way, just as we are! The entire bridal party wore sneakers.
There was color everywhere you looked. Every single detail of our wedding, from the food (a build your own hot dog bar), to the cake (a simple bright multi-color tiered cake with silly minion topper), to the rainbow peekaboo under the font hem of my gown, was planned to reflect us. Not once did we make a choice because “that’s what you do or what you have” at a wedding… and that would be our biggest piece of advice to any other couple… make your choices together and based on who you are and what YOU want.”
