An Invitation to Connect with Mother Earth: Justin & Teagan

I am absolutely thrilled to be able to share this real wedding with you today. A few weeks back I saw these photos being previewed and was thrilled when photographer Mary Kalhor contacted us to ask if we would like to share them on our blog. Mary played a huge part in Justin and Teagan’s wedding day in that, not only was she responsible for taking photographs but she was also a bridesmaid.

It was only fair that once the celebrations began Mary was able to put down her camera and join in with the day, but if these wedding portraits are anything to go by then the rest of the day was an absolute blast! Here is what Mary had to say about friends, Justin & Teagan….

“I happened to be both a bridesmaid and photographer for this amazing wedding so after we managed to take a few quick portraits I put down my camera and joined in the celebration. These two met while Teagan was volunteering at an environmentally sustainable village on a farm in rural Worcestershire so it’s no surprise that their wedding was a very green and communal effort. This was their vision for their wedding…

“We love the great outdoors – and as such, with these celebrations we aim to invite a connection with nature, with our Mother Earth. We see that our interests and impacts as individuals are inseparable from those upon the rest of society and from our planet. Therefore we aim to ensure that the celebrations have as minimal impact on the environment, and as positive an impact on our communities as is possible.

The celebrations will be held outside, close to the earth, and we strongly encourage ride shares and using public transportation to travel to the weddings. No paper invites will be winging their way to you – sorry! We are exercising our purchasing power to support local farmers, growers and businesses, use recycled and reclaimed materials, and to waste not.”

And they did! The wedding was held at Camp Wilkerson- an old boy scout camp in the middle of the woods. We all slept in tents surrounding old adirondacks or under the stars. The whole wedding was put together by friends and family from the handmade headpiece Justin wore to their delicious cake and Teagan’s beautiful bouquet of flowers. Her dress was purchased at an awesome organization that sells used wedding dresses to support charity and the 2 dozen paper parasol’s she decorated the lodge with were also recycled from another wedding. Upon Arrival guests filled a signup sheet with tasks ranging from cleanup and cooking to face painting and decorating. Everyone at the wedding pitched in and was an integral part of the day. Costume was encouraged so there was a colorful assortment of guests and the 12 piece brass band she hired kept them all dancing. The day started with a giant group yoga session and ended with a wild and naked bonfire- in short it was an amazing day full of love and laughter.”

What a cool couple! I have huge respect for Teagan & Justin and their choice to ensure their celebrations have minimal impact on the environment, they sound like my type of people for sure. Can you imagine being a guest at this wedding? You would have had so much fun getting dressed up and dancing the night away!
