How To Decorate A Confetti Sprinkle Cake!
If ever there was a time when I reflected back on my day and thought ‘today was awesome’, it was the day that the confetti sprinkle cake was made! I mean who doesn’t like a day that involves edible confetti and cake?! This honestly is really easy to do, just whip up 4 layers of your favourite sponge cake and we’ll be ready to rock and roll! Here’s what else you’ll need:
//Jam // 500g butter // 450g icing sugar // Splash of milk // 300g sprinkles // A knife // A spatula //
Ready? Let’s do this…
Step 1: Whisk together your butter, icing sugar and a splash of milk until you have a lovely creamy buttercream icing! Then pop the first layer of your sponge onto your cake stand and using a knife, spread a dollop of the buttercream over the top of the layer until evenly and thinly covered.
Step 2: Take your next layer of sponge and turn it upside down, cover the surface as you did before but this time, using your jam! Then flip it over and place on top of your first layer. Repeat these two steps until you’ve covered and smothered all of your sponges on top of one another! Note: If the sponges don’t quite align then slice off any edges of the cake that you need to, it’s easier to create a smooth finish on the cake if all the sponges line up!
Step 3: Using the same technique as before, cover the very top of your cake in buttercream only.
Step 4: Next it’s time to cover the sides! Scoop out a dollop of buttercream icing and start to smother is horizontally along the cake using your spatula, don’t worry if crumbs fall off at this point, that’s completely fine, just wipe your spatula clean into a separate bowl then continue, it’s best to keep the buttercream as crumb free as possible.
Step 5: Once your entire cake is covered, wipe clean your spatula and using a spiral motion work your way around and up the cake scraping off any unnecessary icing and even out the surface as much as possible.
Step 6: Sprinkle time! Empty all of your sprinkles into a bowl so you can grab big handfuls ready to decorate your cake!
Step 7: Starting at the bottom of your cake, press your sprinkles into the buttercream gently, keep going until the entire base of your cake is covered!
Step 8: Finally cover the top of your cake in sprinkles, gently pressing them in as you go along until you have one edible confetti covered cake!
Voila! You’re done! Told you it was easy didn’t I, now quick, go grab a knife and cut yourself a big slice! Or you know…you could wait to share it with people if you wanted to…
Much Bespoke Love

what a stunning cake!
Looks amazing, can you tell me where you sourced your sprinkles? They’re gorg!
Hi Ashley
Thank you so much! It was super yummy too. We got the sprinkles from our local supermarket. I know Asda, Morrisons and Tesco all do them, however I think they are probably cheaper to source online and you might get greater quantities too?
Hope that helps?
