Our Maldivian Adventure!!
Can you believe it has been nearly 2 months since we first set foot on the pristine white beaches of Maafushivaru in the Maldives. So many people have asked us about our adventure and the first words that come into my head are breath-taking, amazing, beautiful, peaceful, but the one that truly sums it up is paradise!
We should probably start with how perfect the Maafushivaru resort is, being two ladies who enjoy a little bit of luxury from time to time, Maafushivaru certainly spoilt us in that department. Our little villa was situated on the beach, it had its own private decking area and we were totally secluded by vegetation, it was like we had our own little piece of heaven. Through the mini jungle it was easy to spot the clear blue sea which was literally just a few footsteps away from our room. I will never forget waking up on the first morning and opening the blinds to that view, I think I speak for both myself and Jess when I say it took our breath away. The villa also had its own private outdoor shower that come in handy for cooling off on the warm humid nights. There was something about showering outdoors that was strangely exhilarating!
After a day spent travelling and a very eventful trip on the seaplane, our first few days were spent relaxing either on our decking or down on the beach. I pretty much read a whole book in that time, I have never felt so chilled! We spent a couple of afternoons snorkelling around the island where we met one of the resident sea turtles. It was amazing to swim alongside him and watch him hunt amongst the coral reef for his snacks. It was like he hadn’t even noticed we were there. The diversity of sea life around the island is stunning, there must have been hundreds of different species in those waters, too many to name them all! In the evenings we would go and grab a cocktail from the bar and sit in the pool watching the sun set over the sea – it was all very romantic, even if it were just me and Jess 😀
The island also boasts its very own spa and gym. Although we never got chance to use either we did head on over there to see what it is all about and I have to say it looked sensational! Maafushivaru is the epitome of indulgence so why not treat yourself whilst your away!
I have to admit one of the main highlights of our trip was having the chance to swim with Whale Sharks. This has always been a dream of mine although I was wildly nervous. Myself and Mr T had entertained ourselves with the idea whilst on holiday to Mexico a few years back, we built up enough courage to go for it to then find out that the season was over and the Whale Sharks had moved on, so I certainly wasn’t going to let the chance slip me by again. The experience was definitely up there on my top 5 wildlife encounters and I will never ever forget it! On that trip we also spotted turtles and dolphins and at one point a few of us were lucky enough to get in the sea just in time to hear the dolphins clicking sounds under water, it was phenomenal!
The food at Maafushivaru is easily the best I have ever experienced compared to any other hotels I have stayed at. Being vegetarian I am usually a little limited on the food front but at Maafushivaru I was spoilt for choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The variety of food was fabulous with lots of fruit, salads, vegetables, curries and pastas. Much of the food was cooked fresh, as you stood and watched. One of my favourites had to be the Teppanyaki restaurant as it was such a fun experience and the chef was insanely talented. If you ever have the chance to try it out, look out for the green tea pancakes they were seriously yum!
As most of you will know we were extremely lucky to have won this amazing holiday courtesy of Kuoni and Universal Resorts so it is only fair that we say an absolutely huge thank you to them for hosting this amazing giveaway. It really was the trip of a lifetime and you certainly made dreams come true! We would also like to thank all the staff at Maafushivaru, everybody was so helpful and friendly and we met some truly inspiring people. They all work so hard to make your stay as wonderful as possible so we want them to receive the credit they deserve. Maafushivaru really is the perfect place to honeymoon and enjoy your first throws of married life together so I really couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
I hope you have enjoyed our photos and if you haven’t done it please pop over to our YouTube channel and check out our video. Thanks for letting us share this with you and if any of you have been lucky enough to visit the Maldives we would love to hear about your experiences too.
