HOW TO MAKE YOUR WEDDING OUTFIT MORE YOU!
We talk a lot on this blog about adding personality to your wedding but I realise that we have never really touched upon why we think that it’s so important. So today we are going to discuss why personality is especially important and how to incorporate personal touches to your wedding to help make your special day unique and ensure your guests feel a connection to you and your groom with a little help from our friends at Watters.
First, we think that your wedding day should be as unique as you are! There are so many experiences and interests that brought you together as a couple; it makes sense to celebrate those things on your wedding day.
Second, you will be surprised how many people I have spoken to who claim they aren’t cool or brave enough to pull off a unique wedding! Others freak out at the thought of having to DIY their personal touches. Trust me when I say there are millions of ways to add character to your wedding without even laying a hand on a glue gun or sewing bunting. You do not have to hold the most outrageous wedding or have loads of tattoos to be unique. You just have to be you!
Many couples come up with a wedding theme based on where they met or what they like to do together. If for example, you are a couple who enjoys camping and the outdoors then you might want to consider holding an outdoor wedding or having your bridal portraits photographed in the woods.

So how do you apply a personal touch to your style? Well apart from pointing out the obvious; wear what you like, how you like; there are lots of other little things that you can do. Perhaps you have a particular theme that you have decided on and would like your dress to match or perhaps the venue you have chosen will dictate the type of outfit you wear?
With over 30 years experience in dressing brides for their wedding we asked the Watters design team to share their top tips for personalising a bridal outfit…
“Your wedding day look is one of the best places to let your personal style shine. Do you want your look to be an exaggeration of your everyday style or something totally different? Another idea is to create separate looks for your wedding day and bridal portraits, but use the same dress. You know what looks best on you, so research dress silhouettes, hair and makeup options that you know will show off your best features! ”
Including family heirlooms is also one of the most special ways to add a unique touch to your wedding whether included in your decor, photos or your outfit. If you have a veil that’s been in the family for years, but don’t see yourself wearing a veil for the whole day, consider wearing it for part of the day or in your bridal portraits.
One of my favourite ways of adding an original element is to create completely separate looks, whilst wearing the same dress. We have had lots of brides on this blog who have done just that. Some make subtle changes like opting to wear a veil for the ceremony and a floral crown for photos. Others have worn their hair up for their ceremony and kept their makeup natural during the day, then created a loose, comfortable style for the evening whilst vamping up their makeup. We have had brides wear heels down the aisle then rock Converse on the dance floor. We even had a bride completely trash her dress with water paints to wear to her reception (You can read all about that here!). This bride in particular saw her bridal portraits as an opportunity to take a few risks and which is exactly what she did and I can honestly say it paid off, she looked amazing!
So tell me, are you a bride that is splashing her personality all over her wedding? Perhaps you were already that bride and you have advice to share? We would love to hear about it! We would like to thank you Watters for helping us out today and if you would like to see more from their extraordinary collection you can visit one of their Trunk Shows or take a peek on Instagram! Honestly they are divine!!!
