THE SUBTLE TOUCH OF A FEATHER
I’ve always had a fascination with feathers, I used to love happening upon them when I was little and as I got older the colourful craft feathers used to find their way into my scrapbook cupboard! Then when I started working in the wedding industry I was able to get my feather fix at all times and as I’m sure you can imagine today’s shoot really hit the spot too!
“When I was a small child, I collected feathers – peacock or pigeon, I loved them all – and in truth, I still do. There’s something about the sense of freedom that they embody, which as a grown up with endless responsibilities one can’t help but be drawn to. They are a favourite emblem of the bohemian style, to which my own creative output often leans – so it was a natural choice for a shoot on a hot Summer’s day with a team of like-minded industry professionals.
To complement the rural setting, we used a restrained palette of neutral tones with just a little pink and blue, accented with some shimmery metallics. Naturally, the feather motif was carried throughout the styling, which was kept suitably uncontrived.”
Photographer Cristina said ‘We themed the shoot around the motif of the feather, incorporating them into every aspect of the styling, to which they lend themselves so beautifully – but this is not to say that one has to do so – it needs to feel natural and not forced, so if your dress or your cake or whatever doesn’t suit them, don’t worry! Sometimes, less is more and a subtle touch here and there is enough to convey the sentiment.’
