DID SOMEBODY SAY FLAMINGO ENGAGEMENT PARTY?!
I don’t know about you but flamingos were a BIG part of my summer….and yes I am still clinging onto them through Autumn…and yes I’ll stand by that there isn’t anything wrong with a flamingo wearing a Christmas hat! Now…say the words flamingo engagement party to me and I pretty much hit the roof with excitement! You guys are going to love this one…
ABOUT THE SHOOT…
This bright and cheery retro flamingo engagement party came to life thanks to a gorgeous paper suite centered around a flamingo. Flamingos are very much in fashion right now but they were all the rage originally back in the 1950’s, particularly the iconic lawn flamingos. Once the invitations were selected an engagement party was created full of fun vintage details. We envisioned big hair with victory rolls, cat eye liner and glasses, bright lips, a-line dresses with petticoats, fedoras and bow ties and of course, lawn flamingos.
Our color palette inspired by old black and white movies, are bold white and black cabana stripes, with some black and white polka dots which are also very iconic. To contrast the bold black and white we added bright pops of hot pinks, after a flamingo friends, bright greens, yellow and gold! To further enhance the theme the backdrops used for both the dessert table and the custom wine bar were made of faux lawn. These pops of color were played up throughout with details such as bright hot pink gerbera daisy floral arrangements and the gorgeous pink miniature pineapple bouquets.
There were dozens of lawn flamingos throughout the lawn to greet guests as well as our giant flamingo for a sweet spot to take a seat. The guests were treated to a gorgeous dessert table featuring a pink coconut layer cake, with pineapple preserves and cream cheese frosting, beautifully adorned with a glass blown pink flamingo with feathers, a dried pineapple flower and pink pineapple leaves.
The dessert table included custom pina colada gold pineapple shaped cake pops, black and white striped chocolate cake pops, and even two pink feathered cake pops to represent our flamingo inspiration and our lovely couple! Further there were hand painted custom flamingo macarons, and cherry flavored cupcakes topped with pineapple flowers. The guest enjoyed other retro inspired foods such as spam and pineapple, ritz crackers with spray cheese, and some lovely pink beet pickled deviled eggs during the cocktail hour before enjoying their dinners.
For this engagement party a special custom bar was created, painted with our bold black and white stripes, and marquis vintage bar sign. Two of the signature cocktails featured were a Malbec Sangria with fresh muddled fruit and a Pink flamingo cocktail featuring organic pink lemonade and coconut rum topped with a pink maraschino cherry. Both signature drinks were served on whimsical inflatable flamingo drink holders. Custom napkins in our bold pink and green color scheme with the couples names were used as well as personalized drink coasters that matched our paper suite.
For a party favor, each guest was gifted a gold flamingo bottle opener with custom gift tag. Some of the activities for the guests to enjoy included a catered gourmet popsicles cart with special flavors created for our couple. These were a huge hit on a warm evening, a game of crocket with our adorable flamingo mallets, a photo booth using a vintage inspired polaroid camera, these are always so much fun, and of course a flabongo which was also very popular and keeping with the theme. The guests gathered around well into the night under the trees and cafe lights.
