THIS BRIDE HAS THE BEST TIPS ON HOW TO THROW A WEDDING YOUR GUESTS WILL LOVE!
Unlike many brides Shannon didn’t grow up dreaming up her perfect wedding, however after getting engaged and realising just how much fun she could have personalising her big day, making it unique to her and fiance Josh, it wasn’t long before she was fully embracing her wedding planning adventure.
“I didn’t grow up dreaming of my wedding. It just wasn’t something that ever occupied much of my brain space. However, once I realized how personalized weddings can be now–I soon climbed aboard the plan a wedding train.” Explained Shannon.
“Working as an events coordinator for years (mainly for weddings), I knew from others experiences, what I didn’t want. What I did want was a celebration where people felt comfortable, joyous, and alive. We didn’t want our guests to be bored. We wanted them to be well fed, well liquored, and well danced. Throughout the planning process, I tried to imagine myself as an attendee. When did I want snacks? When did I want a drink? (Answer: always). Our guests seemed SO happy. Of course marrying Josh was my number one priority, but making a memorable experience for our closest friends and family was an extremely close 2nd.”
“As Josh and I have such a strong set of aesthetics, most of our choices were no brainers. It was the perfect mix of the both of us in personality and style. Tacos and sequins. Tearful vows and a caricature artist. Fruity Pebbles and golden antlers. The caricature artist was SO important to us. We wanted our friends/family to be able to take home a memento that would always make them smile. Though the line was sometimes long, watching old and new friendships being forged in that line is a sweet memory for me.” Shannon continued.
“My mother and sister researched everything I expressed we might want for our wedding. I 100% couldn’t have done anything without them. They spent hours on Etsy finding the perfect sequin tablecloths, cake topper, gemstones, and huge balloons. Josh’s parents helped us gather those antlers, and we sprayed them gold the day before the reception.”
“I also can’t emphasize enough how important having our friends DJ the reception was to us. We wanted songs we dance to with our friends–not wedding reception standards. Watching my friends have near spiritual experiences over “Back That Azz Up” is something I won’t soon forget.”
“Above all, I wanted it to be comprised of all the things we love. High brow vs low brow be darned. There’s no such thing, really. Only what makes y’all happy. Like Fruity Pebbles? Have a fruity pebbles cake. Like pina coladas? Snag a machine. But make sure to have a day of coordinator who can bring you back down to earth when you need them to.”
“When I look back on our wedding day, my ONLY complaint is that I wish we’d stayed longer. It’s not even really a complaint–more of a wish that the night could’ve gone on forever.”
“OH! and make sure your dog is involved and that she wears a flower collar.”
Thanks for that Shannon, we couldn’t agree more! We want to see more pets at weddings!
