THIS RUSTIC-GLAM-INDIE-CAMP WEDDING EDITORIAL HAS SOME INSPIRING ADVICE FOR YOU
In preparation for an upcoming wedding show, Kelly Maron Horvath, founder of Indie Wed, gathered a group of her favorite vendors and headed back to camp.
“We spent a beautiful October day creating a styled shoot that combined the rustic surroundings of Camp Wandawega in Elkhorn, with bright pops of color and patterns inspired by Aztec tapestries.” Began Kelly.
“While loving the vintage campground setting, we wanted to infuse a little ‘Aztec Glam’ with a touch of punk rock into a traditionally vintage setting. Working from a mood board with a range of inspiration, vendors each approached the shoot with a vision for the overall theme yet with the freedom to do what each of them does best. Our models were actually a real married couple, Lisa and Karsten, that had originally attended Indie Wed when they were planning their wedding.”
“Camp Wandawega provided a great setting with tons of natural beauty mixed with lots of found and salvaged decor. It was a total departure for a bunch of city-based vendors, and they brought in bright pops of color with both natural and geometric touches through the cake, stationery suite, and florals to accentuate the space. We wanted to show that you can work with what you have and by only bringing in a few key pieces, make a bigger statement. No matter what venue you choose, there’s always a way to incorporate unique elements without fighting against the space.” She explained.
“The vendors wanted to challenge themselves to put together a camp wedding that was Wes Anderson-inspired but still totally personal and welcoming. Elizabeth from Anticipation Events always tells clients to incorporate things they love into their day, “A card box doesn’t have to be a new purchase. Whether it’s a punch bowl from grandma or a picnic basket that you take to the park every weekend, I think it’s so fun to be able to keep using pieces from your wedding in your daily life after the wedding is over.”
“My advice for engaged couples is simple, start with one or two ideas to make your day personal. They don’t have to be big things, but they should be meaningful. Don’t get focused on a theme for the wedding or over styling it because that can come off as too staged and impersonal. Look for unique vendors that can help you with this. Trust them to do the best work they can for you. Also, don’t forget to look outside the box for these types of vendors. Perhaps you want invitations with a watercolor scene similar to the ones from our shoot…. look on Etsy or at a local art fair for an artist who can create something custom for your invitation designer to work with. Then when the wedding is over, you have a custom piece of art to hang in your home. A little personal touch like that goes a long way.” Added Kelly.
