COACHELLA INSPIRED FESTIVAL WEDDING IN THE DESERT
Carissa and Cory tied the knot in the desert with style! Wearing a two piece wedding dress and floral crown the bride looked like a real bohemian princess. The ceremony took place in church and the reception party took place outdoors at a private estate in Indio just down the street from “OLDchella” which could be heard in the background. All the details were in place for this backyard DIY wedding. We love how they made the seating chart look like a stage bill for Coachella festival and they even had pool for guests to enjoy with top shelf cocktails, cigar bar, photo booth, tipis and my favourite a Ben & Jerry’s cart.
“I’m the DIY queen, so I wanted a blank canvas that would allow me to create the wedding of my dreams from the ground up. After looking at 22 venues in just two short weeks, I was tired and nothing felt right, then my dad’s best friend offered to let us have it at his ranch in Indio. It was perfect and allowed me to create the wedding I always wanted. We are forever grateful for his generosity.” Carissa began.
“I’m a big believer that a wedding should reflect you and your soon-to-be spouse. I’m inspired by the 1970s and we both love going to concerts and it just so happened our wedding took place the weekend of Golden voice’s iconic music festival, Desert Trip. For a lot of brides, this would equal a disaster as it means limited hotel space for your guests and endless amounts of traffic. For us, this was an opportunity to see one more band before we tied the knot and that’s exactly what we did.”
“We hit up the concert the night before the wedding with our friends and family and had a blast! I incorporated the festival with our wedding theme by making a concert inspired wedding seating chart and naming the tables after some of our favorite bands. We even had two big tipis behind the tables at our reception to top it all off. We just wanted everyone to have fun. I didn’t want it to feel like an ordinary wedding. I wanted people to think they were just at one bad ass party in the desert and that’s exactly what we did. Our guests are still raving about it.” She continued.
“As a bargain shopper, I love waking up on Saturday mornings for an early bird garage sale and thrift store specials, so my mom and I spent most of our Saturdays bargain hunting for the coolest finds for our wedding, everything from antique vases to bohemian rugs. You wouldn’t believe all the cool stuff we found! The best part is I’m holding onto most of it so we can decorate our house someday – talk about a deal!”
“My mom played a huge role in the planning process. She was by my side through it all. We had a blast browsing wedding inspiration photos, shopping for table runners, locking in vendors and the best part is, we grew closer together because of it.” added Carissa.
“A DIY wedding requires an army to put together. A huge thank you to the friends and family who helped make the magic happen. The day before the wedding, it was 100 degrees in the desert and we all had plans to see The Rolling Stones perform that night so we hustled to put everything together that morning. It wasn’t easy and I remember sweating every 5 minutes and thinking “my gosh, we will never make it to the concert” as the workload seemed endless. Once we were done, we rushed to the church rehearsal then straight to the concert. It was beautiful chaos that I’ll never forget.”
“My number one rule was, don’t regret anything. If something didn’t come together as planned then it wasn’t meant to be that way in the first place and chances are no one would have noticed. Imperfections are the beauty of life. Our priest called my husband three different names during the ceremony. It was hysterical. We laugh about it to this day and joke around about how I married three different people that day. But seriously, my best advice would be, don’t take it too serious. Try to laugh things off because if you don’t you’ll regret it later. If you do it right, you only get married once, don’t waste away the day stressing out over the little things. No one is going to care and if they do, the day isn’t about them, it’s about you and your spouse. Remember that!”
