THIS COUPLE HAD A RAINBOW, FLAMINGO AND UNICORN THEMED WEDDING AND WE’RE FREAKING OUT!
If you’re a regular reader of Bespoke Bride, you’ve probably noticed that we’re big fans of all the colour! But we do have a few more favourite things include rainbows, flamingos and unicorns, so when Katherine and Rob’s amazing wedding popped into our inbox we let out a squeal of excitement for SO many reasons! The wedding also featured our idol Freddie Mercury and was held at Fazeley Studios in Digbeth, Birmingham. This colourful, fun, relaxed, chuck out the rule-book vibe is exactly what Bespoke Bride is all about!
“We originally planned to get married in Las Vegas, we found a really cool place called The Neon Museum. It’s an open air museum which houses used signs from casinos and hotels on the strip. You can get married there and we thought it would be fantastic for photos but unfortunately a close family couldn’t manage such a long flight – so back to the drawing board we went,” began Katherine.
“I saw something (not even sure now what) online about a place called Fazeley Studios in Birmingham – a little nosey online and I instantly had a feeling that this was the place for us. The same day I was in Birmingham as I was having dinner at Jamie’s Italian with my friends and daughters. I gave them a call over dinner and they told me to come over and have a look round – we went over straight after dessert and as soon as I walked in I knew it was the place for us,” she continued.
“We wanted something non-traditional and bright and colourful. We would say – lets have bright unicorns, let’s have skull heads, let’s have pineapples, let’s have big balloons with ribbons. Nothing was really planned – it wasn’t meticulously arranged – I just saw things I like and thought ‘that will work’ for the wedding and all came together with a bright, rainbow-like vibe.”
“I tried to use as many people for our wedding as I personally knew, surely your friends would do a great job. We chose The Dignums to be our photographers pretty early on – they really understood our vibe and what we were going for. I then asked my friend Zoe who owns a deli to make a cake made of cheese – she was up for that. A girls in my form group (I’m a teacher) said her mum did wedding flowers – so I asked her if she could do mine. Then it was just a case of ordering bits online – companies I would recommend would be Pop Pop Papier and Something Kindacute – both owners of these small business were extremely easy to deal with and you could pick up the phone – tell them what you wanted and they just ‘got it’ . Everyone made our lives very easy!” Katherine explained.
“We made some pom-poms which was fun to do and fastened them together into brightly coloured bundles and our crazy table plan, which I made the night before the wedding at the venue!”
“The one thing I did want to get perfect was our Queen tribute act – and I was good at organising to go and see different sing in shows Freddie’s until we found the right guy! Our photographers Phil and Toby also arranged a hilarious game of ‘Unicorn Bingo’ as part of the after-dinner entertainment! This involved one of our guests wearing a big unicorn head and drawing numbered coloured balls from a paddling pool, and a cardboard cutout of the Queen as one of the prizes.”
And Katherine had one piece of advice to share, “The first rule is to break all the rules – then relax, enjoy, have fun.”
