MERMAID THEMED WEDDING IDEAS TO DIVE RIGHT INTO
Being a dancer from a young age, designer and planner Leah, from Mostly Becky Weddings & Events, has been submerged in a world of sparkles and vibrant colours. After completing many wedding designs of muted neutrals, she felt inspired to push her design limits and show clients how to incorporate their personal style into wedding days. She took exciting colours and nods to mermaid fairy tales and created a unique, stylish, and inspiring shoot for any couple who isn’t afraid to be themselves.
“The theme came from one of our contributing vendors who wanted to bake a colourful cake! She always runs with our crazy design ideas and so when she brought us one of hers, we knew we needed to make it stunning!” Leah began.
“Our team drew inspiration from the Little Mermaid, with the bright colours that reminded us so much of the beauty under the sea. On one of the tablescapes we used the forks as stands for escort cards to honour Ariel, The Little Mermaid, since she collects “human things” and uses the fork as a comb for her hair.” She explained.
“We loved showing brides it’s okay to play with and mix colours! Things can be classy, glamorous even with a little extra sparkle.”
“Our team connected with Selycia in SWFL working on weddings. She knew we planned in the midwest and as she was from the Chicago area asked if we wanted to collaborate sometime. When Ashton Hill opened its second location in Galena, IL our team reached out to the owner, who is a good friend, to see if we could feature her new space, BEFORE IT OPENED.”
“Galena, IL is the best kept secret, only a few hours outside of Chicago, this quaint historic town has the best little B&Bs, hometown restaurants and some of the best architecture. The venue is a new build overlooking the rolling hills of Galena. You can see for miles, and the interior of the venue space is white, clean and this is a perfect setting to celebrate with a little extra glam and sparkle.” Leah told us.
“We love giving brides ideas how to style a space and create something like no one has seen yet. We knew this new area and new space was the perfect backdrop.” She added.
“Our florist, Clara Joyce Flowers is a flower farm owner located in Galena, IL he not only grows all of his products, supplies tons of florists, BUT he designs each piece with a hand-drawn sketch before he brings it to life!! We knew we were stretching the limits of the popular neutral pallet weddings, but we knew brides know how to do that. We wanted to show them how much MORE they can do, while incorporating tiny details of things they love into their design. For example, Drew from Clara Joyce Flowers added cotton candy to the cake during our set up, instead of flowers. We loved creating something unique, yet beautiful. Our team was stellar!”
“We tell couples to not be afraid of doing things they love on their wedding day. We took inspiration from every vendor and allowed them to create a space truly created by a team. Couples shouldn’t be afraid to do something a little different!! We hope this shoot allows each bride to find something she loves in it, we know not every detail will speak to everyone, but if one small thing inspires a bride to “take the leap” and incorporate something she loves, that is why we did this shoot.”
