Stephen & Nikki’s Festival Wedding: The Bigger, The Bolder, The Better…!
From the minute we laid eyes on Nikki and Stephens vibrant festival wedding we just knew we had to share their amazing day with our wonderful readers. This wedding is the epitome of everything Bespoke Bride stands for, it is completely unique, full of both Nikki and Stephens personalities and bursting at the seams with character. Everything about this wedding screams Bespoke, the dress, the decor, the stationery, the venue, even the cake is all completely about Nikki and Stephen.
The motto for their day was the bigger, the bolder the better and these two certainly lived up to it!
Stephen and Nikki were married at South Farm in Royston, Hertfordshire. “South Farm was the first location we viewed and we fell in love with it straight away. Their motto is “Distinctly Different” which is what we wanted our wedding to be and the ethos of the place matched ours.
The theme of the day was a Music Festival with lots of bright colour. We both love festivals and we felt it was very fitting as Stephen proposed at The Secret Garden Party in 2010. We tried to incorporate many of the smaller quirkier elements that are found at a festival, for example lanyards for all guests designed similar to those you would get at a major festival. We also had fancy dress baskets laid out in the evening for the guests to have some fun with which again added to the feel.
We had lots of DIY details on the day, we designed and printed the table name place cards, the menu, order of service, the lanyard cards and the table plan. We were lucky enough to have a friend to do the printing for us as a gift. We also created our own music playlist for the whole day and decorated the aisle with lots of jam jars with brightly coloured flowers and ribbon which we tied to chairs. When it came to our wedding flowers our florist Ione was told to run wild with her imagination, if she thought it was too far away from a traditional wedding floral design then she was on the right track! And run wild she did, ALL the flowers were spectacular and not a Rose in sight.
I bought my dress from London Bride Couture – I totally fell in love with it! I wanted a show stopper that was very theatrical and Ian Stuart in blue and white candy stripe was going to be just that. Huge and totally inappropriate for the venue… Perfect !!! Stephen’s suit was from Tux ‘n’ Tails, he wanted to wear a morning suit and keep one small element of tradition, but I asked him to get it in Grey as it matched the colour scheme!
We are massive Norman Jay fans from the festivals and we jokingly wondered if he would play at our wedding.. One call to his agent and 30 minutes later we had his son Russ confirmed. Russ put us in touch with Ali from The Halo Group who were outstanding at every level in designing our ideas and supplying the kit for Russ for the evening entertainment… It looked awesome and sounded even better, after all it was all about the Music!
Our photographer Ria Mishaal is wonderful!! After viewing some beautiful photos of South Farm on their website, we tracked the photographer down and found Ria. We were then able to look at her broader portfolio and it was then we knew we wanted her to shoot for our wedding. She was the first thing we booked after the venue.
As our theme was a festival wedding we wanted to brand our wedding as an event and knew exactly what we wanted for invites. Nick & Avril from We Go Together were amazing. They totally understood the theme and came up with a fantastic logo, design and colour scheme which we could roll out across the other areas. The idea for our wedding cake was a completely off the wall idea for a crazy unusual wedding cake but we still wanted it to have a festival feel. We explained exactly what we wanted to Chris our wedding cake designer who then managed to produce a work of art in the creation of the Bell Tent Cake… it was a shame to eat it as it looked so good! All our supplier were just superb, we would recommend them all to anyone.
If I were to give future brides and grooms advice it would be that this wedding planning malarkey is easy!!! Give yourselves lots of time to plan and organise, put it down on Excel spreadsheets, Expect to blow your budget, don’t be afraid to be different if it’s what you want.
