Amanda & Timo’s Breathtaking High Alpine Elopement in Telluride, Colorado
Our original plan for our big day was to hike into the mountains for a sunrise first look. However, due to the weather conditions, the trail was closed! So, a few days before wedding day, Sean suggested we change locations and time to end with a sunset private vows ceremony. And boy are we glad he did!
We started the morning slowly and had a couple of hours to relax, drink our coffee and visit with our family before starting Hair and Make Up. Crystal arrived with her awesome assistant Kendra to work their magic and make me as well as the ladies of the wedding party look stunning! Once my hair and make up was finished, Timo and I left the others to meet up with Sean and Todd for our first look at Bridal Veil falls.
We drove Betty, The Bronco up a few switchbacks for the perfect first look spot at an abandoned mine high above the city of Telluride. We donned our wedding attire, and the moment had come to gently tap Timo on the shoulder. I’ll always remember the smile on his face when he saw me in my dress! We climbed up on the old rails for Sean to capture breathtaking photos of us suspended above the city with the view of Bridal Veil Falls as our backdrop. We then drove down to the base of the falls where we climbed out on the rocks and felt the cold spray of the water on our skin.
Next up was stopping in town to get our Marriage License. Timo and I went into the courthouse to make our union legal. We received so many well wishes from the people around town! Then, we took the Gondola up for a short adventure through the Aspen Forest.
Then it was time for our family ceremony at Trout Lake. The gratitude we have for our families to make the trip with us to Colorado and give their support and encouragement by their presence is tremendous. My father conducted the wedding ceremony using the same words my grandfather used to marry him and my mother. I cannot express how much this sentiment means to me!
Timo and I then hopped back in Betty for some offroading up the mountain to Alta Lakes. When we arrived at the lakes, we hit a bit of a snag. And by snag, I mean we hit a snow bank and got Betty stuck! But a quick call to my father (“Daddy we are stuck. Can you pull us out?”), and we were out of the snow in no time. That moment was the highlight of the day for him!
Last stop was Gold King Basin for our private vows ceremony. The view of the snow peaked mountains, the lush green trees and sun setting over the lake is more than I could have ever imagined as a backdrop to vow to my soulmate that I will love him forever and to hear him vow the same to me. Timo even got to fly his drone around the basin.
We ended our action packed day with a dinner provided by Private Chef, Jeff Randall which was absolutely delicious! Prayers were said, toasts were made, and so much food was eaten!
This day would not have been possible without our family, Sean, Todd, Crystal, Kendra, Sandra (Little Bucket of Flowers), and Jeff. Although we met our “vendors” the day of our wedding, we truly felt like they had been our friends for years. Our expectations were far exceeded!
We did not have a specific vision going into our big day. We just knew we wanted our family involved and that we wanted to be in the mountains. Trusting Sean to take the reins was an easy decision for us and he delivered! At the end of the day, Sean asked us what the rose and thorn of the day was. I couldn’t give an answer for the thorn because the entire day was a rose. It truly felt like a dream come true.
