A Fool In Love: A Retro 50’s Inspired Styled Shoot
The 50’s were a swell decade filled with bold colors & style, which inspired this charming shoot, which we’re featuring on our Wedding Inspiration section for all you future brides. Amanda Mae Visuals and LoveLight Events teamed up to curate something unique and timeless that would appeal to couples who love the retro vibe with a touch of modern flair. In a post pandemic world, small weddings are the new trend and we’re loving them! However, that doesn’t mean you can’t go all out while planning your nuptials. In fact, the goal of the shoot was to focus on the finer details and there were plenty of them!
The Location
Housed in a former block of family owned buildings & inspired by the original architecture of the spaces, Ivory Foundry was created to meet a need for intimate events. With an open layout surrounded by walls of glass block and glass garage doors, the owner’s vision was to keep a nod to the origins of the buildings while accommodating up to 150 people in a fresh, elevated, yet industrial space. This was the perfect backdrop for a vintage shoot because it had just the right mix of old and new.
Decor & props
56 Classic Limo provided an authentic 1950’s Rolls Royce and it was the highlight of the shoot! It really brought the whole theme together. Indoors, the soda wall lined with Coca-Cola bottles was also a unique touch. The bold red label on the bottle contrasted nicely with the green wall and bright white neon sign. The vintage Coca-Cola cooler was the perfect accent. There was another green wall with “Better Together” signage, which was a cute corner for the bride and her bridesmaid to snap a few pictures. The upholstered pink couch was a great contrast. The balloon wall, put together by LoveLight Events was a great backdrop for photos too!
The tablescape
The color scheme was red, white & black. The small pops of color were eye-catching, especially the assortment of flowers spread across the table. Each placement was complemented with a personalized record with each guest’s name- the perfect touch!
The paper goods
The invitations were simple, yet fun and had that mid-century modern touch. This is the perfect option for couples looking for something with clean, easy-to-read typography with a just a little pop of color. Each guest also received a cute little dinner menu with a selection of options, just like you’d find in a 50’s diner!
Food and goodies
A shoot like this wouldn’t be complete without some delicious treats and there were plenty of them. The cake was simple. It had red velvet filling and an array of berries on top. The macaroons added a hint of color to the spread and were just as yummy as they looked! The charcuterie board was finely crafted and the champagne was a great pairing. The bridal party celebrated with a burger, fries, and plenty of milkshakes!
The attire
The shoot was an homage to the 50’s, so it was a mix of retro and modern. The bride’s outfit was daring, edgy, and glamorous! She wore a cute polka-dot top with a tulle skirt. It photographed well and was easy to twirl in! She also wore black lace gloves- another small touch that gave the ensemble a little something extra. One of the best parts of her ensemble was the leather jacket, specially engraved by Handpainted with Chill. The bride draped it over her shoulder for most of the shoot and it was giving Grease vibes! The bridesmaid’s dress was a gem found on Rent the Runway with a bit of sparkle that worked perfectly for the shoot.
The groom opted for a white suit, courtesy of Formally Modern Tuxedo Indy. It was very old school Hollywood- he looked like a movie star! The groomsman wore a traditional black suit. The red bow tie and white sneakers were a contrast to the groom’s outfit that had a neat, retro flair.
This dreamy shoot is great inspiration for any couple who has a rockin’ style and a love for all things vintage. The 50’s aesthetic is timeless and fun- what more could you ask for?! After burgers, fries, and a little bubbly was served, the bridal party was whisked away in a vintage Rolls Royce, which was the perfect ending to a nifty day!
