Winter Honeymoon Photoshoot in the Dolomites
Cav & Jo originally planned to have their pre-wedding photos taken in the Dolomites in the summertime of 2020. But due to the pandemic, by the time they could travel to Italy, they were already married. Still wanting to celebrate their honeymoon and their marriage, they decided to make it a honeymoon shoot instead.
Winter in the mountains can always be unpredictable. On the day of their shoot, the sun was shining, but as we reached the top of the mountain, everyone noticed the force of the strong wind. They powered through, putting jackets on every few minutes to keep warm. After their first location, on the top of the iconic Seceda ridgeline, we headed down into the valley to explore one of the mountain passes. I knew snow was on the forecast, but within minutes, our sunny day turned into a blizzard just 10 minutes down the road.
The mountains in winter can be a very dangerous place if you’re not prepared. As a local, being used to the snow and icy roads, I threw on the snow chains and we went to see if we could find any places where there was a break in the clouds. But they weren’t shifting at all. We made a couple of stops along the pass, where it was safe to do so, and finished our adventure with some hot coffee and snowball fights in the deep snow.
Why the Seceda Ridgeline is the Perfect Location for a Winter Honeymoon Photoshoot in the Dolomites
Nestled in the heart of the Dolomites, the Seceda ridgeline stands as a majestic backdrop for a winter honeymoon photoshoot, offering unparalleled vistas of snow-capped peaks and enchanting alpine landscapes. With its snow-covered slopes and pristine white scenery, Seceda transforms into a winter wonderland, creating a magical setting for couples to capture unforgettable moments against the backdrop of nature’s raw beauty. The towering peaks, dusted with snow, provide a breathtaking contrast against the azure sky, painting a picture-perfect scene that exudes romance and serenity.
Moreover, the Seceda ridgeline offers endless opportunities for adventurous couples seeking to infuse their honeymoon with excitement and wonder. From exhilarating hikes through snow-draped trails to cozy moments shared amidst nature’s embrace, Seceda presents an ideal canvas for crafting intimate memories that will last a lifetime. Whether it’s strolling hand in hand along the ridge or stealing a kiss beneath the towering pines, every moment captured against the backdrop of Seceda’s winter landscape becomes a cherished keepsake, a testament to love’s enduring warmth amidst the snow-cloaked peaks of the Dolomites.
Tips for a winter photoshoot in the Dolomites
Winter is ski season
The Dolomites are a magical location all through the year, but visiting in the winter is very different from in the summer. The months of December to April are typically the ski season, where the mountains come alive with winter sports fans cruising the slopes. While mountain lifts transport skiers all over the mountain, many don’t accept foot passengers.
Many famous locations are inaccessible
Locations that are accessible in summer (especially some of the famous ones) aren’t always so easily accessed in winter, so it’s important to work with vendors who are local to the area and know which places can and can’t be accessed in winter.
The lakes are frozen
Many people travel to the Dolomites to see the crystal-clear mountain lakes. But during the winter, these freeze over and get hidden under a blanket of snow.
Wear layers
Most people expect it to be cold, but underestimate how cold it can feel. Especially if it’s windy, and the wind chill makes it feel even colder, especially if you’re wearing a dress. I highly recommend wearing skin-tone fleece leggings under the dress and having warm accessories as well as a big coat to wrap up in. Scarves and wraps look cute but they do very little to actually keep you warm.
