A COLOURFUL MODERN WEDDING WITH BRIGHT FLORALS, PINK SHOES & A DONUT DESSERT BAR!
As a graphic artist, hand letterer, and bride-to-be, bride Anna did a beautiful job of co-ordinating bright and cheery colours into her and Billy’s wedding. We’re absolutely obsessed with the bright details, the pink shoes, the pop of colourful florals and don’t even get me started on the donuts! Anna also hand lettered all of her own paper goods and design elements! How awesome is that?!
“On May 6th, we said “I Do” in Richmond, Virginia, the city we met and fell in love in over seven years ago” Anna Began.
“Our venue, Sabot at Stony Point, is a private school with a beautiful garden hidden behind the school, surrounded by big old trees and historic brick walls.”
“My day started at the stunning Quirk Hotel. Billy surprised me with a room for the weekend! With pink walls, cheerful decor, modern furniture and big, bright windows, it was the perfect setting to get ready with my bridesmaids. After a morning of mimosas, music and my best friends, we headed to the venue.” She explained.
“Despite the threat of rain showers, we took the risk and stuck to our outdoor ceremony plan. I walked down the aisle to “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” by Ingrid Michelson and tried (unsuccessfully) to hold back the tears as I approached my best friend and the man I love. Our officiant, Josh (a family friend and pastor), said the most meaningful and heartfelt message. And just like that, the clouds parted for our vows.”
“After cocktail hour on the terrace, our reception was held under a wooden pole tent with strings of bulb lights. We had a tex-mex taco bar (our favorite food!) and craft beer from a local brewery (our favorite beer!). For the toasts, we drank a honey mead we made together almost five years ago.” She added.
“Our wedding design was a combination of each of our styles — modern meets organic. Some of our favorite design elements include — bright, bold florals, a mid-century modern lounge grouping, acrylic and wooden signage, wooden farm tables and chairs, a hand painted photo booth, and a colorful dessert display.”
“We also wanted to include unique, personal details. As a graphic designer and lettering artist, I designed and created all of the paper goods and day of signage for our wedding. For our invitation suite, I lettered and illustrated a custom monogram crest. The crest includes modern lettering (our initials “A+B”) and hand drawn organic foliage to reference our garden wedding. We included the crest throughout the event, such as on our cocktail napkins, menu cards and thank you notes.”
“Billy is a pretty serious Star Wars fan, sp we incorporated subtle Star Wars references throughout the event, including Death Star beer koozies, a Star Wars reception entrance, Star Wars socks for the groomsmen and “I Love You” + “I Know” chair signs and later in the evening, our friends surprised us on the dance floor with Star Wars masks.”
