Wedding for the Weekend: Ollie & Jenn’s Prestbury St Mary’s Church Wedding
Jenn and Ollie were married in the beautiful Prestbury St Mary’s Church and it was obvious that the attention to detail on the day would be second to none. After photographing Jenn, her family and the bridesmaids, Marcus from Big Eye Photography drove to The Plough in Prestbury where Ollie was dressed, ready and enjoying a pre-wedding drink! He had no worries about being late for the Church as it was literally across the road from the pub.
After the ceremony, with beautiful, soft light flooding the Church, a few group photos were fitted in before heading back to Jenn’s parents house to take some images for their thankyou cards. This was soon followed by the journey to the evening reception at Whittington, at Ollie’s parents’ house – a gorgeous marquee in landscaped gardens with beautiful touches as can be seen in the images below, from flowers hanging from the roof to croquet on the lawn!
We particularly love the guest book in this wedding and the grooms sense of humour!

We wish both Ollie & Jen all the best and hope you all enjoy the rest of the weekend in the gorgeous sun!
Why a St Mary’s Church Wedding is a Lovely Idea
A St Mary’s Church Wedding is a truly special and memorable experience. Let me share why it’s a great idea:
-
Historic Charm and Spiritual Significance:
- St Mary’s Church, situated in the heart of Prestbury village, exudes historic charm. People have been getting married here for centuries, making it a place steeped in tradition and significance.
- The ceremony includes God, adding a spiritual dimension to your marriage. Whether you’re religious or not, God’s blessing can be a meaningful part of your wedding day.
-
Beautiful Setting:
- St Mary’s boasts an elegant and timeless architecture. The early English Gothic Revival style creates a picturesque backdrop for your wedding.
- Imagine exchanging vows in this beautiful church, surrounded by stained glass windows, wooden pews, and the soft glow of candlelight.
-
Personal Connection:
- If you live in Cottingham, you can get married at St Mary’s. But even if you don’t reside there, other connections make it possible:
- Were you Christened at St Mary’s? If so, it’s a place with personal history.
- Did your parents or grandparents tie the knot here? Continuing that legacy adds sentimental value.
- Attended services at St Mary’s for six months? You’re part of the church community.
- These connections make your wedding at St Mary’s feel intimate and meaningful.
- If you live in Cottingham, you can get married at St Mary’s. But even if you don’t reside there, other connections make it possible:
-
Vows and Commitment:
- In a church, you can make vows that resonate deeply. These promises, made publicly, strengthen your commitment to each other.
- St Mary’s provides a supportive environment. God and the church community are there to help you keep your vows and grow together as a couple.
-
Bells and Traditions:
- For all 11 am Sunday Eucharist services, most 6.30 pm Sunday services, major midweek festivals, and many weddings at St Mary’s, the tower bells ring.
- The Sanctus bell chimes during the Consecration in morning Eucharist and signals the Angelus at evening service.
- These traditions add a touch of romance and history to your wedding day.
-
Guidance and Planning:
- Once you express interest in getting married at St Mary’s, the Rector will meet with you to plan your wedding.
- Your Banns of Marriage will be read, ensuring everything is in order for your special day.
In summary, a St Mary’s Church Wedding combines tradition, spirituality, and a beautiful setting. It’s a place where love and commitment are celebrated, and where your vows become part of a rich history. So, if you’re considering a wedding venue, St Mary’s Church is a lovely idea!
Much Bespoke Love
