Ever wondered how a mountain of ill-fitting clothes could spark a revolutionary startup? Meet Olivia Dicopoulos, the founder behind Fytted, and her partner-in-crime (and love), Greg Auerbach. Their journey began with a mutual frustration over endless online shopping fails and an ever-growing return pile. Determined to break this cycle of waste and inefficiency, they channeled their innovative spirits into creating Fytted. This app is your AI-powered personal stylist, ensuring every piece fits just right. Olivia didn’t just stop at everyday wear; she even used Fytted to find her dream wedding dress online—saving money and looking fabulous while doing it.
As part of our wedding planning and inspiration tips, we interviewed Olivia to learn more about how she and Greg turned their problem into a solution for millions, on their way to revolutionize the online shopping experience one perfectly fitting outfit at a time! Read our interview below for insights and inspo…
1. How did you get the idea for her startup? What inspired you?
“The idea for Fytted emerged from my own personal frustrations with online shopping, and my ever growing return pile of clothes. As busy professionals, Greg—my co-founder and fiancé—and I often found ourselves ordering multiple sizes of the same clothes to ensure a fit, only to end up returning the ones that didn’t work. This wasn’t just an inconvenience; it highlighted a cycle of waste that we were both determined to fix.
I also can not afford a personal stylist, but I have always wanted to have one. If I couldn’t hire one, I could create one, and that’s exactly what we did. We used AI to figure out our body shapes, our seasonal color palettes, our perfect sizes, and even our celebrity body twins—all features that are currently available on our app Fytted.
Deciding to co-found Fytted was driven as much by our belief in each other as it was by recognizing a gap in the market. With our combined strengths and shared vision, we set out to create a solution not just for ourselves but for millions of others facing the same challenges.”
2. How do you believe your startup will help future brides?
“I believe it will greatly reduce the stress for brides by simplifying the process of choosing their wedding dresses. They won’t need to carve out time from their busy schedules for dress shopping. Additionally, some women can’t afford the high prices at bridal shops. It’s more cost-effective to purchase a white dress online that is a tenth of the price. It also allows you to have creative freedom and come up with a wedding look that is traditional or something more unique. Because my wedding dress I ordered online is simple and classic, I am having a really fun time accessorizing my look to make it feel more like me and to fit my aesthetic.
“Not to mention you don’t have to wait weeks for your dress to arrive which is the case for many bridal shops! For example, the white dresses I ordered online were at my door in two days, and I got to order them only a few months before the wedding and not a year in advance.”
3. Where and how do you see the wedding dress shopping process evolving in the next five years?
“I think more people will buy their wedding dresses online, and fewer people will visit stores. I believe this is the more cost-efficient and time-efficient option. You also can order multiple dresses from different stores and brands to try on, and if you use Fytted you won’t have to worry about spending extra money on having your dress tailored. I also believe people will feel more daring and will choose dresses or suits from places that aren’t typical bridal stores. They may venture out like myself, and choose a dress that wasn’t supposed to be a wedding dress, but definitely feels like it to them!”
4. Could you share a few paragraphs about your experience searching for your wedding dress?
“I originally went to a bridal shop to pick out my wedding dress and found something I liked, but I still felt uncomfortable paying so much for a wedding dress that I would only wear for one hour on the beach. I then contacted various wedding dress tailors, and they all quoted me a minimum of $500 to $600 to fit my dress. I couldn’t justify paying that amount, especially after a difficult year health-wise.
I had to return the dress, but I still wanted to wear a wedding dress on my wedding day. I started looking online for white dresses that could pass as a wedding dress and used Fytted to find my perfect size. When the dresses arrived, I tried them all on, and each one fit perfectly. I chose the one I liked best, which cost less than $200, and I didn’t have to spend extra on tailoring. I care more about the person I’m marrying than about wearing an expensive designer dress. I truly appreciate wedding fashion, but it’s not affordable for everyone. You don’t need a $5,000 dress to have your dream day. I also ended up loving the dress I ordered online far more than the thousand-dollar dress I initially bought.”
5. Could you share a few words about the startup experience, and its mission?
“Working for the startup has been an exciting journey because we are able to build something from the ground up and create a product that I use and hope others will use to find their perfect fit. This allows them to enjoy and appreciate fashion more when they discover what looks and feels best on them. I also have the unique opportunity to work with my soon-to-be husband on this venture. It has been so much fun working with him and striving toward a goal we both share.
