How to Make a Simple Side Braid: Effortlessly Stylish in Just a Few Steps!
Searching for awesome tips on how to make a simple side braid? You’ve reached the right place 🙂
So guys I have a little secret to share with you. I have fallen in love with styling hair. I am not great at it by all means but these past few weeks I have had so much fun practicing with new styles. Braids have always been a bit of a nemesis to me. I have such long hair that it can get pretty tricky trying to create styles without feeling like my arm is going to drop off at any second, but I am persevering and this week I think I may have finally mastered a simple side braid.
It can be difficult to do on your own hair so for my first attempt I thought I would use Jess as my model. I hope you like 🙂

How to Make a Simple Side Braid: Effortlessly Stylish in Just a Few Steps!
Side braids are one of those go-to styles that blend simplicity with a touch of elegance. They may look intricate, but learning how to make a simple side braid is easier than you’d think. Whether you’re running late or want to change up your look for an event, this quick braid will have you sorted.
Step One: Prepping the Hair The foundation of any great braid starts with properly prepped hair. I always like to brush out any tangles first—there’s nothing more frustrating than trying to work through knots halfway through a braid. If you’re feeling fancy, add a texturizing spray to give your hair some extra grip. Think of it like trying to build a sandcastle; dry, loose sand just won’t hold. Similarly, that spray will give your braid staying power, especially for finer hair.
Step Two: Dividing Your Hair Now, here’s the moment of truth: divide your hair into three equal sections. You want to pull all your hair to one side, as the side braid’s beauty comes from its asymmetry. If you’ve ever split a cake into even slices, you’ll know it’s a challenge. But don’t worry about being perfect here; a bit of messiness adds charm to the final look.
Step Three: The Braid This is where it gets surprisingly simple. Start by crossing the right section over the middle, then the left over the new middle. Repeat this process, always working with the outer strands moving toward the center. Before you know it, you’re halfway through! Keep braiding until you run out of hair and then secure it with a clear elastic or a hair tie that matches your vibe. I sometimes finish off the braid by loosening it slightly, which gives it a relaxed, romantic feel, like a boho princess.
Step Four: Finishing Touches The best part about knowing how to make a simple side braid is that it’s super versatile. Once you’re done, you can leave it as is for a casual look, or you can dress it up by pulling out some face-framing pieces or adding a decorative clip. Personally, I love incorporating flowers or ribbons for an extra touch, especially if I’m heading to a summer wedding or festival.
And there you have it—a chic, stylish braid in no time!
