Deck the Walls with Glitter Reindeer Art…..Falalalala Lalalala!
One of my favourite things about the festive season has to be the decs! I have had mine up since the first week of christmas, I love the way they make the house seem warmer, more cosy even. This year I have decided on more traditional decorations, very much inspired by last years trip to Sweden and the Scandi style. Keen to add even more glitz I happened upon a similar canvas to this on Pinterest and thought it would be a great addition to our home. I wanted to make my version a lot simpler than those I had seen previously which included glue and glitter and thought this would be the next perfect project for the Cricut Explore. You will be amazed at how simple it is to make your own glitter reindeer art for Christmas!
You Will Need: 16 x 12 inch Canvas//18 x 14 inches White Fabric// Staple gun// Cricut Gold Iron on in Gold Glitter// Iron & Ironing Board//Cricut Explore//Clothespins//
Step 1: Stretch your fabric over the canvas and pin in place.
Step 2: Head over to the Cricut Design Space. ‘Create a New Project’ and search for ‘Deer head’ and choose the one you want. Then upload the our ‘Merry Christmas’ & ‘Deer’ pdfs to the design space and follow the instructions on the screen for cutting your silhouette and quote out of the Iron on material.
Step 3: Once cut you will need to remove any excess material from around the silhouette and text, you will need to take care at this stage as the text is quite thin and can easily be broken apart, although this isn’t the end of the world it is a lot easier to iron on as a whole.
Step 4: Place the silhouette and text on to your fabric and mark where the head and text will go using a very faint pencil line.
Step 5: Remove the pins and fabric and replace the silhouette and text this time making sure the shiny liner is on top. Take care to ensure that the head and quote remains in the right place, then use your iron to iron the them in place, following the guidelines on the packaging.
Step 6. Leave to cool, then gently remove the liner.
Step 7: Once cool replace the white fabric onto the canvas, ensuring the head and quote are lined up and central then staple the fabric in place to the wood at the back of the canvas.
Eeeek!!! Just a few more weeks to go until Christmas. Have fun adding this to your own menagerie of decorations this year, it’s the perfect project for this weekend, provided you have finished all your Christmas shopping, unlike me?

Let’s face it: Christmas decorations can quickly spiral out of control. One moment you’re draping tasteful garlands on the mantel; the next, your living room looks like it’s been hit by a glitter tornado. As a wedding blogger and DIY enthusiast, I’ve navigated my fair share of crafting chaos. When it comes to Reindeer Art, though, it’s all about striking the perfect balance between festive fun and creative flair.
The first time I tackled a reindeer project, it was a comedy of errors. Armed with a glue gun and some cinnamon sticks (why?), I set out to craft delicate antlers. Predictably, they snapped like twigs in a snowstorm, leaving my reindeer looking more bedraggled than magical. These days, I swear by sturdy materials like actual twigs or pliable wire for antlers. Cinnamon sticks? They’ve been relegated to spicing up mulled wine instead.
Twig Reindeer: Rustic Reindeer Art at Its Best
Twig reindeer are one of my go-to holiday decorations. They’re simple, charming, and full of rustic personality. All you need is a small log or wooden block for the body, twigs for the legs and antlers, and a pom-pom or button for the nose. Hot glue makes assembly a breeze, but a word of caution: these little guys aren’t exactly durable. My daughter once decided to rearrange a twig reindeer’s “pose,” and let’s just say it didn’t survive the makeover.
Symbolically, reindeer represent resilience and grace, qualities we could all use more of during the hectic holiday season. Twig reindeer art adds a nostalgic, handmade touch to any Christmas display, reminding us that simple pleasures often shine the brightest.
Reindeer Ornaments: A Staple in Reindeer Art
When it comes to Reindeer Art, ornaments are a festive must-have. I’ve experimented with everything from googly eyes and pipe cleaners to wire and muted tones for a more sophisticated look. The latter approach always wins. My first attempt at making reindeer ornaments resulted in a tree full of baubles that looked slightly… unhinged. They were fun, but not exactly the classy vibe I was going for.
The secret to reindeer ornaments is subtlety. Swap out bright colours for earthy tones, and opt for materials like copper wire for antlers. This way, your tree radiates elegance instead of looking like an overzealous crafting experiment.
Reindeer Canvas Art: Sleek and Modern
If you’re craving something bold, Reindeer Art on canvas is a modern, impactful choice. My first attempt at a reindeer silhouette taught me two things: metallic paints are gorgeous, and patience is non-negotiable. Stencils make this project easy, but if you rush, you’ll end up with smudges galore.
Gold silhouettes on dark backgrounds—think navy or charcoal—create a striking, minimalist piece of art. It’s perfect for your own home or as a thoughtful holiday gift. Just be prepared to defend your masterpiece when friends inevitably try to claim it as their own.
What Reindeer Art Taught Me
Crafting Reindeer Art is more than a holiday pastime—it’s a lesson in creativity, patience, and embracing imperfection. Whether you’re assembling twig legs or painting sleek silhouettes, each project becomes a reflection of your holiday spirit. So roll up your sleeves, grab some glue, and create something magical. Just remember: cinnamon sticks are for cider, not antlers!
