Wedding DIY: Match Box Favors with a Free Download!
Matchbox favors are a super cheap and really cute way to give your guests a little something to leave your wedding with! These boxes literally cost me 17p each and you can get them even cheaper than that if you buy them in bulk on Ebay! Plus we’re throwing in the print out we designed for free so you can easily print it off and have a budget friendly and fun favor!
Here’s how to do it…(seriously guys, it’s SO easy it practically doesn’t need a tutorial!)
Step 1: Save the free template and print it out! You can choose from pink, black, purple, blue or orange! Or you can just print out a whole load of them and get colourful with your favors!
Step 2: Cut out around the stencil of one of your match box wrappers.
Step 3: Position it around your matchbox.
Step 4: Fold it underneath the box and tape the one side in place.
Step 5: Bring the other side under and tape on top using a thin piece of tape! You could glue if you prefer it to look a bit neater! No one will see under neath though!
Step 6: Turn it back over and voila! You’re done! Now onto the next one…
Have fun! And for even more printables click here!
Much bespoke love
Why We Love The Idea of DIY Match Box Favors for Your Wedding
IY matchbox favors are a fantastic idea for weddings, and here’s why we love them. First off, they’re incredibly budget-friendly. A bulk pack of matchboxes won’t break the bank, and personalizing them is an easy way to make your guests feel special. Whether it’s with your names, wedding date, or a quirky design that matches your theme, these little keepsakes leave a lasting impression without the hefty price tag.
Another reason we’re smitten with matchbox favors is their versatility. You can easily customize them to suit any wedding style. Rustic barn wedding? Wrap them in twine and add a little sprig of lavender. Glamorous, upscale affair? Think gold foil stamps and luxurious materials. You get to be as creative as you want, and the options are endless. It’s like giving a tiny canvas to express your love story.
Practicality is a big plus, too. Let’s be honest—everyone loves a wedding favor they can actually use. Whether your guests light candles at home or need them for outdoor bonfires, matchboxes are always handy. Plus, they’re small enough to tuck into a pocket or purse, making them a convenient, thoughtful token from your big day.
Now, here’s where it gets even better: adding a personal touch. You can make the favors interactive by including a custom note inside, like a heartfelt message or a fun fact about your relationship. It’s those small, sentimental details that make a wedding truly unforgettable.
As a personal anecdote, I once attended a wedding where each matchbox had a quote from the couple’s favorite books. Not only was it touching, but every guest left with a little piece of their love story. That’s the beauty of DIY wedding favors—they allow you to inject your personality into every aspect of the celebration.
Finally, the symbolism behind matchboxes is charming. Think about it: matches create warmth and light, just like the love you’re celebrating. What better way to send your guests home than with a reminder of the spark between you and your partner?
This is awesome!!! Looks so easy to make and the free download is the best part!!
Thank You for the Idea!1
Is it just me, or does the wrapper cover up the sandpaper? You can pull them off of the matchbox before wrapping (they should just be glued on) and glue them back on over the cute paper!
How much does this cost average? With the cost of the matches, paper and ink? Love this idea!

hi there, i need some help…:) i so love this “matches labels” i print one but i think it’s too small for the normal match size… or did i print it wrong? i just click and save – > you can choose from pink, black, purple, blue or orange then print it but the size is too small?
I think you have to buy this particular brand matches for the free printable to work? I tried it with another band and they were too small…trying to fix it up in photoshop : ) Thanks for the free download!!! Super cute!
I think we had a pretty standard box of matches but the sizes will definitely vary. Glad you like it 🙂
