The Swedish Old Manor House Wedding of Mark & Johanna
Meet the gorgeous couple living in Australia who decided to gather friends and family from near and faraway places all in bride Johanna’s home town; Kristinehamn, Sweden. This wedding took place at a beautiful old manor house by the lake while friends and family took time to make garlands, balloon strings, pom poms, table decorations, signs, cakes and canapés etc, all in the week leading up to the wedding to make the day extra special and personal! Over to Johanna to tell the story in their words…
“When it came to our wedding day, we chose to go with a décor that we felt reflected us as a couple. We wanted to keep it simple with an injection of colour! The flowers came from Nya Drakes flowers in Karlstad, Sweden. Place cards were designed by our very talented friend, Kelly, who also made the invitations, maps and save the date cards. The centrepiece wooden boards were hand cut and cared for by a family friend, Lars. Vases and candle holders were from IKEA, and all the little details such as bread cones, tissue paper garlands, flowers and signs were hand made by us and our family and friends.”
“WOW, where to start with our photographer?…Therese Winberg is amazing! Her personality, creativity and attention to detail were incredible. She’s also very professional, we’re SO happy that we chose her to document our day. From the first time we met her in her office in Stockholm, we knew we had made the right choice. Therese felt like an old friend and made us feel totally at ease. Neither me nor Mark are especially keen to be in front of the camera but with her it was so easy. It was really nice to get a “timeout” and just spend some quality time together, being in the moment.”
“The groom and his groomsmen’s ties were an Etsy find and hand knitted especially for the wedding. The groom sourced and chose everything himself for their outfits, the man’s got style!”
“Gorgeous cakes, canapés and desserts were made by the groom and family and friends, flowers that were even more gorgeous than I could have imagined (I didn’t see them until the day of the wedding!) and the musicians who had never heard our songs until a few weeks before did an incredible job, a whole lot of talent went in to all elements of the wedding.”
“The bridesmaids got to choose their own bridesmaids dresses, I gave them a colour scheme and they went from there. One girl had her friend make hers; another had one in the wardrobe at home etc. They all looked beautiful in the end.”
“The groom’s suit was from Jack London, Mark wanted a really blue suit and we saw it one day when we were just casually walking around Fitzroy, Melbourne. The shoes were Kenneth Cole, the ties were hand knitted and the groomsmen pocket squares came all the way from Paris!”
“My wedding dress was a San Patrick dress that I initially saw in a bridal store in Oslo when we were there for Christmas, it was the first dress I tried on and I instantly knew it was the one! My shoes were from Asos.com and my earrings were Eva Attling.”
“Suppliers that really stood out to me on the day were the florists (Carina at Nya Drakes in Karlstad, Sweden) that organised all the flowers for the wedding was incredible throughout the whole process! I sent her photos of what I wanted and tried to describe it the best I could, and she totally nailed it. Also Mathias and the guys from 3 Kok in Karlstad, Sweden who catered the food were amazing, such talented chefs, and delivered very delicious food that also looked incredible – they were really easy to work with and super skilled in the kitchen! Our stationary wizard Kelly is also an amazing graphic designer, who was able to create what we wanted straight away.”
“Our advice for future couples getting married would be to enjoy it! It really is the best day of your life. Do what reflects you as a couple and stick to it, if you’re into DIY, do it, don’t want a cake? Don’t have one. Get help from people where you need it and organise a second dress to wear during the evening. I didn’t want to take my dress off but it got to the point where I just had to get out of it, and I didn’t have a second dress, so what do you do? Put the dressing gown on and keep on dancing, haha. We also felt that our honeymoon was waaaaaaay to short, getting married is emotionally draining (in the best possible way) so make sure you have the time to rest, recuperate and just enjoy being newlyweds.”
