10 Tips To Get More Pinterest Followers & Maximise Your Account
When i first found out about Pinterest I was mesmerized, it quickly became an addiction of mine to pin everything and anything I liked on to my own boards! Quotes, home decor, prints, countries, travel dreams, you name it, I had a board for it! The more I used Pinterest the more people I followed and I soon started noticing businesses with their own accounts! DUH! I thought, why doesn’t Bespoke Bride have a Pinterest account yet?! So we created one. And the addiction started again. But soon the benefits of having a Pinterest account would become seriously apparent to us and spending time on Pinterest no longer became something to do when we were procrastinating with a cup of tea! That’s right. We were ALLOWED to spend time on Pinterest as part of our social media because it was so benefitial for us!
Here’s the thing. Pinterest is one of our top traffic sources to the blog. So if you don’t have a business Pinterest account, I suggest you make one sharpish and get it all linked up to your site!
Simply having an account isn’t enough though, you need to maximise this feature to it’s full business potential! Here’s our top tips for making your Pinterest a kick ass account with lots of followers and oodles of traffic to your site!
Tip 1: There really is nothing worse than arriving on someone’s Pinterest account who has just made a load of rubbish boards filled with mass amounts of images some good, some terrible! It’s just obvious that they’re pinning for the sake of pinning. Remember to only pin things you truly love and believe to be awesome!
Tip 2: Giving each board a fun and quirky name is a great way to catch people’s attention and gain more followers! Remember to keep it relevant though! For example if you’re creating a board of things you would like in your house instead of naming the board ‘Things I want for my house’ you could name it ‘Home Sweet Home’ or ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’. It’s little things like that make the difference between them clicking on your board or the pinner next to you’s board!
Tip 3: It’s an obvious one but a good one! Following other pinners in your field not only fills your feed up with great and relevant things for you to pin but most of the time people will follow you back if they see you’re relevant too!
Tip 4: Pinning regularly is KEY. An account with nothing happening on it is going to get the exact response right back at it, if you’re actively pinning, liking and commenting on photos then you’ll actively be receiving more and more followers!
Tip 5: If like us, you have a blog or website that has a lot of your own images on it then adding a ‘pin it’ button can be hugely successful! It works particularly well for us with our DIY tutorials because readers love to Pin those photos to their ‘tutorial’ boards to save for later! Ours is a simple plugin which we downloaded and installed called ‘Pinterest Pin It Button For Images‘
Tip 6: Of course a little self promotion never hurt anyone right? But if you just constantly pin photos and images from your own website and spend no time re-pinning other peoples cool stuff then it’s going to get boring very quickly!
Tip 7: You can see ours the moment you land on Bespoke Bride in the top right corner with the rest of our social media icons! This makes it so much easier for readers to click straight through to our Pinterest account and follow us!
Tip 8: Adding 1 or 2 hash tags to a pin is A-Ok in our books! Not only does it make the pin easier to find but it ensures that it’ll pop up in the search engines of Pinterest! Seriously though, don’t add more than 2 hash tags, we’ve all seen that guy on Pinterest who’s literally listed every hash tag possible in the description of the pin….don’t be that guy….nobody likes that guy.
Tip 9: Creating boards that are personal to you not only sets you apart from other businesses by showing off your personality but it also appeals to a much wider audience. Someone who might not necessarily be interested in your business boards might just be interested in that fabulous board you created about Italy! Ding! More followers!
Tip 10: Hosting a competition is a truly awesome way to gain more followers or traffic to your website! You could ask participants to create a board (and name it with your business name) then get them to pin their top 10 favorite items from your website or just simply ask entrants to follow you! If you are offering an absolutely awesome prize then you obviously have more leeway in what you can ask participants to do to enter. Remember though, If your prize is small, the steps they need to take to enter should be minimal as well.
So there you have it, ten tips to get more Pinterest followers and maximise your account!
