A Rustic Big Top Circus Wedding – Katie & Jonathan
Oh my gosh our wedding for today is so exciting! This wedding has all the fun of the circus, a big top tent, acrobats and even a fly over.
As if all that wasn’t enough for you the bride and groom are utterly gorgeous, the blooms are totally beautiful, almost all of the details are completely handmade and the bridesmaids dresses were my favourite colour – mint green!
What more could you possibly want….
We were married at the St Andrews Church in the village of Middleton on the Wolds. The village is very important to us as Jonny grew up there with his parents who sadly are no longer with us. It also held some momentum for me as my parents owned a Land Rover garage which was just across the road from Jonny’s parents so we both had spent a lot of our childhood there – it was the perfect place for us to get married.
Our theme was rustic Circus love! We had a big top circus tent set up in the grounds of my family home in Hutton Cranswick, Driffield. It was the perfect starting point for our wedding planning. We really wanted to create something special. We designed and made everything ourselves, the invitations, bar, cake stall, dance floor, place names and mats, table plan and cake box favours. We even made our own tables which Jonny made out of old pallets and our chair covers which were made from old sacks.
I designed the cravates and handkerchiefs for the groom and his groomsmen with my mum. We chose the the fabric from the cloth house in london – Silk for the groom and hessian for the groomsmen, which might not have been the best fabric for the hottest day of the year?
We had so many amazing moments on our wedding day, we had a huge surprise from the circus acts – we didn’t know that they were going to perform. They were amazing! Our friends dad also arranged for a surprise fly over as the guests arrived which was incredible!
My favourite memory of the day had to be the first moment that I saw my husband at the altar (I will never forget that feeling!) The time I got to spend with my dad in the car on the way to the church was also very special to me.
Our photographer for the day was Carly Bevan, we clicked with her straight away! I love her style of photography and her imaginative photography captured our special day perfectly.
I loved doing all the preparation up to our big day and we really made our day individual, we loved every minute of the lead up to it. We had lots of help from family and friends when it came to creating our wedding day, they were there to help with all the lifting, moving and setting up. We couldn’t have done it without them, they were all amazing!
My advice for other couples getting married in the future would be to have your ushers help organise your family photos so that you can make sure you get photos with everyone. I also created a sketch booking when I was planning so that I could keep adding my thoughts and images to it, it really helped to be able to look back through it for reference.

I have to admit as a bit of a DIY addict I am totally impressed by all the DIY details in this wedding, although my favourite has to be the sack chair covers and that dance floor is pretty darn impressive don’t you think?
Wouldn’t you have loved to be a guest at that wedding with the circus acts, I think the photos are proof of how much fun everyone had on the day.
Much Bespoke Love

This is a beautiful wedding! Where are the bridesmaids shoes from?? My friend is getting married in May and I think these shoes would be perfect for her bridesmaids.
