Rustic & Bohemian Styled Shoot With a Super Cool Edge!
I am beside myself today as I finally get to share this glorious shoot with you!
I have to admit one of my favourite features of blogging is of course the styled shoot, I really think if done well they can provide some great inspiration for real weddings as well as showcasing the work of fabulous suppliers that wouldn’t ordinarily have the chance to work together.
When Lucy of Lucy Greenhill Photography and Rebecca of Pretty Little Trio Vintage Hire first saw these Tipi’s they knew they just had to get their little mitts on them! We both just loved them, they are such a natural blank canvas to create an event in and James and Andy of All About Me are just so enthusiastic about their Tipi’s we just knew that we’d have a pretty cool time creating a shoot together. Lucy and Rebecca told us a bit more about the shoot and the team behind the images.
When we got our heads together, we had a few ideas that were central to it. We were keen for the feel to be quite simple, a little bohemian, a little bit vintage but with a super cool edge. We wanted bursts of colour, with soft feminine touches and little details that reflected our ‘couples’ personalities and passions.
The Tipi was dressed simply with fairy lights, ivy and the hanging paper lanterns to give a punch of colour. We sent Andy up a ladder to hang the lanterns, from the Hanging Lantern Company while we directed from a safe distance…..we reckon he did a pretty good job! Rebecca decorated the tables with her vintage linen and pretty vintage china, books, lemonade jugs and vintage bottles, which were filled with gorgeous natural blooms. The whole look was very informal and relaxed. The beautiful images show that vintage china can be really versatile and really compliments the natural look, it doesn’t have to be all bunting, and garden fetes (although Rebecca adores all that too!).
Fabulous and uber talented Heather from Living Colour created all the beautiful floral arrangements, bouquets and button holes. The flowers tied in the colours and feel of the whole shoot, the two bouquets show how the look is quite versatile, the very rustic, natural hand tied bouquet and the more structured bouquet with fabulous succulents, both styles looked amazing in the setting of the Tipi.
We asked the lovely Emma from Hattie Boo to provide the stationery. With so much colour already in place through the gorgeous ribbons (That Lucy lovingly spent hours making), vintage china, the cake, the lanterns and flowers she wanted to keep the look of the stationery quite simple, to compliment the tipi itself, so Emma used a rough manilla board. Going for a natural, rustic, relaxed feel this was just perfect for the style we were aiming for. We really love the way the island hoping themed seating plan that dresses a simple set of wooden steps has turned out.
Beth of Cakes by Beth made the stunning wedding cake and mini bite sized sponge cakes (we were so tempted by their bite sized-ness -not a word?!?). The inspirations for the cake design were floaty summer dresses and maypole ribbons. Beth wanted it to feel like a traditional wedding cake so kept most of the cake white but with splashes of pastel colours. The palette of pale blue, pink, lilac and orange-yellow gave it a very 70s boho feel but without being too bright or rainbow, and the trailing ribbon corsage added an unusual finishing touch, she a very clever bunny and the cakes tasted great too ( hmmm bite sized cakes).
The Bride wore ‘Primrose’ an Erica Stacey gown. Erica’s wedding dresses are quintessentially English in style, with quirky touches, which was just perfect for our super cool bride. The dress has a bohemian look with 1920s style fringing around the hem, large handmade flower motifs and delicate layers of chiffon that floats when the bride walks to reveal a subtle all over sequin skirt. The headpieces completed the look, created by the very talented Nicola from Silver Sixpence in Her Shoe. We used three in total starting with the gorgeous Lilianna floral crown, which worked so well with our natural theme. Then we moved onto the stunning and understated Indian summer version of Florrie, simply placed around the forehead, really working with our bohemian look. Then for the last stage inside we completed the look by teaming Juliette in Ivory with Titianna the lace hairband.
The Groom wore a heritage tweed suit from Topman teamed with a floral tie which accented the button hole. We wanted to continue and English quirky style to match the dress. Creating a country casual bohemian look to compliment the Tipi.
The makeup for the “bride” was kept very natural and classical, the base was flawless and fresh to compliment the vintage style of the dress and the models beauty, nodding towards a traditional beauty look. By keeping the makeup light and fresh, this reflected the location of the shoot and the bohemian theme and as the gown was so delicate and detailed, it was important for the makeup to reflect this and be soft and gentle. Lashes were used to open the eye and define, the eye makeup used brown and neutral tones, including MAC Satin Taupe lightly blended into the socket to give a slight shadow in the crease. A nude pink lip finished the look off and added a pretty whimsical touch. The hair was tonged into loose curls and tousled to tie into the bohemian theme, finished off with the delicate headband peeking through which kept the look youthful and feminine.
We wanted to make the most of the groom’s natural tan and English Gentleman-esque style and personality, so a touch of powder and a comb through the brows was all that was necessary. The hair was kept tousled, a few snips here and there to tidy up, whilst keeping it quite disheveled and undone to compliment the quirky details of the tie and tweed suit.

I just love the backdrop Lucy made for some of the shots and I must give her credit, as it is this very ribbon creation that inspired our very own backdrop which we displayed at wedding fairs this year, so thank you very much Lucy!
On another note Lucy’s photography and styling is alway so amazing, you might remember her 1940’s Parisian styled feature we shared back in October, which received many wonderful comments and I have a feeling this one will be just as successful, don’t you?
