The Power (& Health Benefits!) Of Gratitude…

New year’s resolutions are a great thing don’t you think? They’re a chance to set yourself a new goal, learn something new and to grow as a person. This year, I wanted to do something a little different when it came to my new years resolution. As some of you may know I’m a massive believer in the Law Of Attraction, now don’t go thinking I’m a crazy person right about now but I genuinely believe that if you keep a positive and happy mind then your life will be filled with positive and wonderful opportunities, moments and feelings! I really believe that you can have anything you want as long as you set your mind to it!
Any negative thoughts that pop into your head need to pushed right back out! Believe me, flip it over, think about something positive or you’ll just make yourself feel bad when you focus on those negative thoughts.
Now, if you want to start attracting positive things in to your life (and seriously, who doesn’t?!) then there is one key thing you need to do. Show gratitude. Because we all know we reap what we sow and we get back what we give out right? So the more we show gratitude for things, the more things we’ll have to be grateful for.
That’s why, this year, my resolution is to keep a gratitude journal. Every night, before I go to sleep, I write down things that I really appreciated that day and was really thankful for! It could be as small as someone letting you share their umbrella in the rain or making you a warm cup of tea or it can be as huge as feeling grateful for having a roof over your head and being able to cook lovely meals with the food you bought because you’re grateful to have enough money to do so.
Really think about these things, it’s much better to write down 1 in depth gratitude entry than to write down 4 or 5 mini entries. Take a few moments to think about it and remember how it made you feel. I use an app on my phone for this but you could always get a notepad if that’s more your thing! It’s all about what suits you best and what’s easiest for you! The app I use is called Gratitude Journal 365 and I would recommend it to anyone!! It let’s you input your gratitudes really easily, upload a photo if you like and displays it all in a calendar view for you! I especially love the way it tells you how many things you’ve been grateful for so far. I’ve got 81 entries and we’re only 16 days into the year!
I can only tell you how GOOD it feels to look back at that and see I’ve been grateful for that much in just over 2 weeks, it makes you feel great, appreciative and happy!
And get this, writing down things you’re grateful for has actually been scientifically proven to improve your health!! Yep. True story. It’s been proven to relieve stress, help you sleep better and even strengthen relationships as it teaches you to appreciate your loved ones more! However, if you have other issues like addiction problems, alcohol addiction, for exmple, it will not be as easy as you think to feel that grateful again. In this case, you’ll probably need some reliable alcohol addiction help from professionals.
I really feel that we live in a world where the small things are sometimes taken for granted and forgotten about and having a gratitude journal can really change that, it makes you think differently and forces you to recognise those small acts of kindness that actually, mean a lot. And remember, when we’re feeling good, we’re attracting good things into our lives!
What do you say? Would you join me in my appreciation for the little things?? I say we should all adopt this ‘attitude of gratitude’ and start living a happier life!
Screw the gym. I’m all about saying thank you this year!
Much Bespoke Love
Such good advise. We all need to hear this kind of thing 🙂
Gratitude journals are amazing. You can feel so much better even in the worst of times by just listing the good stuff. When I was bullied at work (ugh), I kept one to remind me that there was a bit of shiny sparkle even in the darkest of days (that sounds a bit drama queen, but you get me!), and it really worked. Just little things like my husband carrying my bags for me made me focus on love and being loveable rather than the moo at work. Another cracking post from you ladies! I love your blog so much – it’s such a happy place!! xx
