A Creative & DIY Wedding Filled With Talented Etsy Suppliers and a Hint Of Hollywood Glam!
Anyone who knows me & Emily well will know that we absolutely ADORE Etsy. You can find pretty much anything on there and it’s even more special knowing it was hand made with a whole lotta love gone into it! Etsy is one of the first places I would look for Christmas presents, Birthday presents, thoughtful gifts but how about using Etsy to create a beautiful wedding? I most certainly would, and that’s exactly what Mary and Tim did on their special day!
Mary and Tim Vidra are a creative couple living and working in Richmond, Virginia. Mary spends her days on Etsy, helping to lead up the site’s Merchandising team and Tim is a freelance writer, blogger and food stylist. (You can keep up with their creative adventures over on their collaborative lifestyle blog, 17Apart!) So it’s no surprise their wedding looked this beautiful! “Creative and DIY themes were woven throughout the entirety of our big day held in our hometown of Richmond, Virginia where we celebrated with 60 of our closest family and friends. All the big elements and little details had some sort of DIY, vintage, artisan, or local story behind them. We loved having Etsy designers from all over the world hand-make special details, everything from our invitation suite and wedding bands to the heart-backed bridesmaids and flower girl dresses, to the groomsmen pocket squares and more.
My gown was handmade by Sarah Seven and set the tone for the rest of the wedding, where we wove elements of golden sparkle throughout, complimented by pops of pink, greenery and muted grays. We wanted that feeling of down home southern fun with a hint of Hollywood glam.
We held the ceremony in the intimate private city garden at the Edgar Allen Poe Museum in Richmond, which houses the oldest standing building in Richmond’s history. We let loose at the reception just up the hill at our favorite local restaurant (the chef for which was named as a Mid Atlantic James Beard semi-finalist this past year), The Roosevelt. Guests were shuttled between the ceremony and reception site on a working Richmond Trolley. The reception included more elements of DIY and vintage decor, though the focus was on the southern food and hand crafted cocktails with a story behind each. Our cake was locally made and adorned with blooming fresh peonies and greenery that complimented the bridal party florals. We got creative with the idea of a guestbook and set up a letter writing station where guests could write us a note on one of many vintage Richmond postcards we’d sourced from Etsy, all spread around a vintage suitcase. We left the party to the bright shine of heart sparklers and guests took the accompanying personalized matchbooks that doubled as favors.
Most importantly, we have cherished the exceptional images our photographer, Tori Watson of Marvelous Things Photography, captured — preserving all those magical images from such a special day in time.”
