An Outdoor Garden Wedding On A Lake – Lyndsay & Danny
Image getting married at the very lake you used you walk around when you were a kid. Wouldn’t that be something special? That’s exactly what Lyndsay and Danny did on their beautiful outdoor garden wedding and it couldn’t have been more personal…
Our venue was a beautiful outdoor garden located on a peninsula overlooking Fowler Lake. The location was not only perfect for a summertime wedding, but it was a sentimental location as well. I, Lyndsay, grew up in Oconomowoc and used to walk around Fowler Lake with my family. Every time we passed the church with the big red door, I would wishfully dream about how I would love to get married there. It’s a picture perfect location!
There were no questions about who we wanted to photograph our wedding. Danny and I knew Jaimee and her husband for a few years before the wedding. They were one of our favourite couples to hang out with. Anybody who’s been around Jaimee for more than five minutes knows she’s got the best sense of humor and a passion for life. Not to mention, she’s extremely talented behind the camera. When we got engaged, photography was the easiest thing to plan. We asked Jaimee, she said yes, and I never worried about our pictures once. I guess we got lucky to have our wedding photographer be one of our best friends.
I got my dress at David’s Bridal. It was the very first dress I tried on. I got married the summer between my junior and senior year in college, so I didn’t have thousands of dollars to spend on a dress. But, I remember browsing online for affordable dresses, seeing my dress, and hoping to try that one on. Sure enough, that dress was the very first one I saw when I walked in. I tried it on and loved it. It was a pretty easy process!
I really wanted my look to have a romantic feel to it. I didn’t want my hair to be too structured or curly or too done up. I had my stylist give me a low, loose updo that would fit the relaxed, flowy, romantic theme I envisioned for our wedding. And I actually did my own makeup. I had another photographer friend who knew a lot about beauty, and she helped me pick out makeup that would correspond with the feel of my wedding and that would look great in photography. Danny also found a great deal on grey suits for himself and the groomsmen at JC Penny’s.
The bridesmaids all wore navy blue dresses. I chose the color and they went and chose a style that they liked and that flattered their body shape. I also chose bouquets of mostly pale pink and white peonies and ranunculas with lots of greenery. I wanted the bouquets to look like they were picked from a garden! Audrey Brown did an amazing job with the flowers. Would highly recommend her to anyone!
We had cupcakes as part of the desserts! The main reason was so that we could have several different flavors instead of just one! My favourite was raspberry champagne! Then for dinner we had a buffet of chicken chardonnay, beef tenderloin medallions, parisian potatoes, green beans almondine, fruit salad, Italian salad, and dinner rolls.
Our décor was garden themed. I really wanted the décor at the reception to be centered around the flowers on the tables. So, flowers were the main way of decorating at the reception. At the ceremony, not much décor was needed because of the beautiful location.
My favourite moment was walking down the aisle. It hit me that this was my wedding day and I began to cry. I didn’t want to, but I wouldn’t change it. It was so meaningful.
I found a lot of inspiration for our special day on Pinterest, but I think I found most of my inspiration from stylemepretty blog!
My advice to future engaged couples would be don’t forget to make time for your relationship. Getting caught up in the planning can be stressful, and it can seem like that is all you talk about. Don’t forget about your relationship!!
