A Rustic Winter Wedding – Travis & Lynsey
I do believe that today’s real wedding will be the first winter wedding we have featured on our blog for 2014. How did we ever get to March without seeing a single speck of snow?
If I were to be completely honest winter is my least favourite time of year but I cannot deny that when it comes to weddings, it is a beautiful season to get married. Photographer Shanna Duffy Williams did a fantastic job of capturing some stunning photos of the bride in the low winter sunlight.
Lynsey told us that one of her favourite aspects of her wedding was her bouquet and it is clear to see why, a mixture of apricots, pale pinks and dusky purples the colours are perfect for a rustic winter wedding. These colours are a common feature throughout the wedding even the bridesmaids Rosewood dresses – which look amazing on Lynsey’s bridesmaids, fit exceptionally well with the rest of the theme. Here is Lynsey to tell us more…
Lynsey: “Growing up I’ve always wondered what month would be the best month to have my wedding. Since I was little, I remember going to a lot of weddings in the spring, summer, and fall, but never a winter wedding. Since I am a teacher and have a nice holiday break near the end of December, I thought it would be perfect to have a January wedding. What better way to start off the New Year?
Since we decided to have our wedding held at the lovely, Arbors, in Cleveland, NC, it didn’t take very long to figure out what our theme would be. A rustic wedding on these particular grounds is a no-brainer! It was very important for Travis and I to make sure that our wedding day was a reflection of both of us. Travis and I are both free-spirited people that cherish the outdoors. In fact, our very first date was spent on a Lake Norman dock with fishing poles, some warms, and a bucket of KFC chicken & biscuits. We also wanted to include our bird dog, Ruckus, in our engagement photos, since he is an important member of our little family.
The colors I chose for my bridesmaids dresses was a newer color from David’s Bridal called: Rosewood. Not only did the color name match our theme, but it went exceptionally well with the other colors: peach, ivory, & light pink. One of my favorite aspects of the wedding was our flowers. I decided to go with an assortment of roses and astilbe flowers wrapped in burlap ribbon. The amnesia roses really matched the rosewood dress color and made the best boutonnières! One great thing about The Arbors, is that you don’t need to have too much décor. The place has enough of its own natural beauty inside and out that all I really needed to do is add accents (the fun part). During my planning process, I tried to think of the major components that I could really try to make our wedding resemble us, so our buck and doe cake toppers were a great touch and also quite humorous.
Above all, Travis and I couldn’t have been any luckier when it came to choosing the perfect photographer. After all, she is the one ultimately responsible for capturing every little detail of the wedding. Shanna Duffy Williams and her husband Koy were able to capture moments that I never even knew existed that day. Between the two of them, we were able to see our wedding day from various point of views. All we are left with now are gorgeous pictures to tell our story. We were so blessed to be able to have them share our big day with us!
As our wedding date approached, I recall of many friends and family warning me that the wedding day goes by so quickly and that we should both enjoy every little moment; and boy they are right! A full year of planning jam-packed into an event that lasts only one day is hard to even grasp. So, for future brides and grooms, just remember to have fun along the way. There inevitably will always be at least one thing that doesn’t turn out as planned, but just be prepared to “roll with it”. For example, Travis pulled his back exactly one week before our wedding. He could hardly get out of bed & dress himself! But with the help of some medicine and a few drinks he forgot all about it! Try not to stress, because your wedding day is only one day. One day to remember for the rest of your lives; celebrating it with the people you love most.”
