A Chic DIY Winter Wedding in Milwaukee – Jenna & Jameson
You know how much we love a DIY couple here at Bespoke Bride so when Jenna & Jameson’s wedding landed in our inbox we were completely blown away! Not only did the bride make her gorgeous bouquet but she also created the ceremony backdrop and drew cute chalk board signs plus her groom Jameson made a beautiful memorial wall and giant picture frame photo hangers! This certainly is one of those weddings where the couple’s personalities and styles shine through…
Our Photographer…
Was absolutely Amazing ! Ren is amazingly talented and we are so lucky to have had Studio 29 photograph our wedding. Ren’s vision and eye for detail resulted in amazing photos of our special day that we will be proud of forever. She was able to accommodate our needs before, during, and after our wedding without hesitation. Our preview went live in only a couple of days so we could relive all of the excitement and joy we felt while it was fresh in our minds. With all of the tough decisions we had to make regarding vendors for our wedding, we can honestly say that we are most proud of selecting Studio 29 and will encourage our soon-to-be married friends to do it as well. Thank you for the beautiful memories Ren!
Any funny stories about the wedding planning?
We have 3 furry children who were extremely confused with what was going on over the year prior to our wedding and they would always try to get into our boxes of wedding decorations and supplies to investigate. If you’ve ever visited our house you’re well aware of our cat named Harold and his notorious reputation. About a month and a half before the wedding we were going through the box that housed Jenna’s dress and other wedding attire to find that Harold has gotten into the box and ripped a bunch of holes in the veil Jenna had made for the wedding. After further investigation we decided the veil was a total loss and Jenna had to scramble to find something new. We used to always joke and say ‘Harold, you’re the reason we can’t have nice things!’ but it’s true.
Why you chose your venue?
We needed a place that could handle 200+ people and also house both the ceremony and reception with an area for a cocktail hour in between. We knew we would have people coming from all over the US and we wanted to show them a very Wisconsin wedding. The Turner Hall Ballroom has so much character and history that it felt perfect from the minute we walked in.
Your favourite part of the wedding day?
It is hard to choose just one because we feel like the wedding turned out better than we ever imagined. It was great to have all of our friends and family there to celebrate and to know they were having a great time in our honor. Probably the #1 would be our ceremony. We didn’t take the common road of getting married in a church or asking one person to be an Officiant, instead we asked members of our wedding party to do the honors. The day is about marrying the one you love while being surrounded by your friends and family, and who better to join us together as man and wife than those people. Everything went perfect, and we can say we did it our own way.
Wedding theme?
DIY, winter chic, classic – We spent a lot of time making our decorations and finding the perfect accents. Jenna made the ceremony backdrop (with the help of Jameson’s mother) which doubled as a backdrop for the photo booth, drew the chalk board signs that were scattered all around, and also made some of her bridal accessories such as her bouquet. Jameson made the memorial wall and giant picture frame photo hangers.
Where you got your inspiration for the decor/theme from?
We wanted something elegant but not over the top. Being February we were able to skip the flowers and use touches of flare such as the silver glitter branches, tons of candles, and sequin table clothes to help make things stand out. Turner Hall is such an amazing space that we didn’t want to take away from it so we spent a little extra to add string lights and up-lighting to show it off. Neither of us had strong feeling for colours so we stuck with a simple black/white look with the groomsmen wearing grey to make it a little more casual.
Best part of the wedding planning?
Having a vision and seeing us make it come to life. Jenna’s backdrop was absolutely amazing and her bouquet turned out fantastic as well. We wanted things to be unique and have our guest recognize our hard work in them. The day-of execution by Brocach Catering & Turner Hall took everything to a level above and beyond what we expected.
Advice for brides currently planning/about to have their wedding?
