Bright Lights and Big Rides: How to Plan a Luna Park Wedding That’s Full of Colour and Fun!
Dramatic Jilted Bride Wedding Editorial
Styled shoots have to be one of my favourite things on our blog. I love seeing how suppliers take a simple idea to create something that you would could never even consider, not even in your wildest dreams. When Sophie and Laura of Strange Case Collective asked us if we would be interested in featuring an editorial they had been working on we couldn’t have been more excited. You see I had been eyeballing the sneak peaks for days and had my fingers crossed that they would think Bespoke Bride was the perfect fit. I immediately fell in love with the session, the photography and styling is dark and dramatic, you might even describe some of the images as haunting? I would love to see a real wedding shot like this.
Here is fashion stylist Kerryn to tell us more…
“Amy, Strange Case Collective and myself had all done bridal shoots, but we were all keen to do something a bit more editorial. Kate from Little Red Vintage has a beautiful collection of vintage wedding dresses, and I really wanted to do something special with them. Combined with the gorgeous creations at Claudia Pink Jewellery we had the perfect mix for a Miss Havisham-inspired fashion shoot.
The idea initially came about when talking about one of Strange Case’s brides who had the post wedding blues and just wanted to spend every day in her wedding dress – like Miss Havisham. We didn’t want to do the obvious castle ruins and cobwebs setting, instead we thought about what a contemporary jilted bride might do. Go to the pub! We approached the Hilbre Court pub in West Kirby, which had new ownership and had just undergone a refurb, and the lovely new manager Josie was happy to let us use the building. They even kept us fed and watered throughout the day! It was great seeing these gorgeous vintage gowns in a typical local pub setting of fruit machines, pool table and darts board, and I think it gave the story a lovely modern twist with a little injection of humour (despite the melancholy subject matter!).
Our model, Kit Williams, has this amazing long thick hair, so we had Abi, the hair and make-up artist, give her big, wild curls for a slightly haphazard appearance. In contrast, the make-up was more editorial and other-worldly, giving Kit an almost Avatar-esque appearance.
Strange Case are notorious for their gorgeous paper flowers. For this shoot they decided to go more weathered and dark by creating an aged, tea-stained floral crown with burnt edges. One of my favourite shots has this crown layered with a black-sprayed silk flower headdress and a black veil, with a plume of smoke billowing past Kit’s face. I think it sums up the vibe of the shoot perfectly!”
