A Simple, Classic & Timeless Wedding: Lesley & Dan
For anyone who is a little unsure of the type of real weddings we feature here on Bespoke Bride, I would like to explain a little bit about what a Bespoke Bride (and groom!) really is. A Bespoke Bride is modern, stylish, fun and quirky! She has oodles of personality and isn’t afraid to show it. A Bespoke Bride isn’t always obvious but she wants to do things a little differently, she wants to add her own personal touch however big or small and most of all she wants to make her wedding day the start of a marriage.
Today Lesley and Dan are the perfect example of a bespoke couple, their special touches although not over the top or extravagant, meant that their wedding day was especially unique to them using just heirlooms and a love of all things au natural. I really love Lesleys final word, I think she nailed being a Bespoke Bride perfectly… read on to hear the rest of her story…
“Dan and I are both pretty casual people, but we definitely wanted our wedding day to be special and memorable. We knew that we wanted to have our wedding feel as warm and intimate as possible, while including all of our friends and family. My main goal as far as inspiration was to have our wedding be a classic and timeless occasion. I did not want there to be an obvious theme or colour scheme, which is why we loved having our ceremony and reception at the Faculty Club in Edmonton. We were lucky enough that the vast windows at the Faculty Club served as a “natural” backdrop, lush and green. I chose not to have bridal or bridesmaids flower bouquets, but Flowers by Merle made gorgeous floral arrangements that were white and airy.
I fortunately found my wedding gown with relative ease. I knew I always wanted a lace dress, Crystal at Crystal’s Bridal definitely found the perfect gown for me! We both really loved a classic black tuxedo with a slim black tie and suspenders for the boys. We had several personal touches that weren’t so obvious to most of our guests, but those touches meant a lot to us. My mom loved our vision of timeless and classic so let us use special candle holders for our head table that she has been collecting for the past thirty-five years. All through my life they had always been a part of special celebrations. She also got a flower arrangement made for me in one of my grammie’s crystal dishes for our table too.
We were lucky because Dan’s mom made our gorgeous cake, and she came up with a gluten and vegan recipe for my dietary needs. She included my mom and me in designing the cake topper, so that created such a special memory leading up to the wedding, and definitely made the cake even more special. I wanted our favours to reflect my love of natural products, so we found Pearl and Daisy in Nova Scotia; we gave a guests their great lip balm and pretty packaged bath salts. Personal touches don’t always have to be apparent to everyone, but I think that they did add to the intimate tone we wanted to set.’

I think Lauren Hannah has done a superb job of capturing this couple. I love how they incorporated Dan’s work into their photography too, why shouldn’t they when it obviously plays such a huge part in their lives together.
So tell me what makes you a Bespoke Bride? What personal touches will you be adding?
Much Bespoke Love
