Vikki & Si’s Elegant & Personal Wedding
When it came to Vikki & Si’s Wedding a theme wasn’t something they wanted to paint their day with, so instead they focused on collecting things they liked that had personal meaning to them and used those items to bring their personalities to life throughout their wedding day! From subway maps to collected and recycled CDs for each individual guest, this wedding is truly beautiful in each and every way…
How would you describe your wedding?
An incredible, fun filled day with our family and closest friends, there was a lot of laughing and it sounds very cheesy but it was genuinely the best day of our lives.
What kind of theme/look/colour scheme (if applicable) did you want for your day and why?
We tried to avoid having a theme as such more a collection of things that we liked and meant something to us but the venue really leant itself to a vintage style.
Tell Us About The Dress…
After visiting a small number of bridal shops I soon realised that although the dresses were beautiful it felt like I was wearing someone else’s dress. What I really wanted was a dress which was more personal to me as Simon and I wanted our wedding to represent who we are with lots of small personal touches. I would have never thought about having a dress made as I presumed it would be well outside our budget but after finding Erica’s website and loving her unique vintage style the offer of a free no obligation appointment drew me in! Erica was so friendly on the phone and asked me to have a look online and bring some pictures of dresses I liked, so armed with a number of images my chief bridesmaid and I arrived for a cuppa and a chat.
Erica asked lots of questions about our wedding to get a feel for the style of the day and had soon drawn up a dress drawing inspiration from our conversation and the few ideas I had brought with me and most importantly my key criteria…. I have to be able to dance, lots! Bowled over by Erica’s enthusiasm and extremely satisfied by the price, (less than most of the dresses I had tried on in the boutiques for a dress totally ‘Made in Manchester’) it was an easy decision to go ahead with Erica. Together we tweaked the design and she made suggestions of different types of materials, laces, and chiffons. It was clear that nothing was too much trouble; even down to sending different lace and material samples for me to and making several adjustments at the final fittings. It goes without saying that the dress was totally perfect and I while i guess every bride gets complimented on their wedding dress but my friends and family were genuinely amazed by how unique and totally ‘me’ it was.
There was so much going on in the lead up to the wedding but nothing excited me more than my visits to Erica to see the dress come together. I can’t recommend her highly enough, the fact that my mum also decided to have her mother of the bride outfit made by Erica and her lovely team says just how much we enjoyed the experience!
What was your favourite element about the wedding day, the bit that stands out the most when you think about the day?
The ceremony was really special but I think our favourite part was seeing the reaction to the cd favours. We’d collected and recycled a cd for each person attending the wedding which meant something to each of them. It took a while to arrange but the reaction made it worthwhile.
Tell us a bit about some of the suppliers you chose and why….
Florist – Finding Clare Evers was amazing, we’d seen a few florists but she immediately understood the style we were looking for and had lots of ideas to help. Walking into the venue and seeing all the flowers around the venue was really special.
Cake – I am incredibly lucky to be friends with the very talented owner of Lilibets of Paris in Southport. Lilibet made us a ‘naked’ Victoria sponge overflowing with fresh fruit, it was stunning.
Photographer – The Lawsons are a ridiculously talented couple and we adore their relaxed and natural style. We were so pleased with the photographs and spend hours looking at them and reliving the day!
Hair & Makeup – We kept costs down by doing our own make up and the girls all helped each other which was good fun and our hair was put up by another friend of ours, Tim at Crowning Glory in Mold
Bridesmaids dresses/suits – We decided to go for high street bridesmaid dresses from Coast, I asked each to choose a different one of their navy blue occasion dresses which they felt comfortable in. I think it worked really well to have them in different styles but the same colour. The groomsmen were simply in a grey suit of their choice with a navy blue tie and Si’s suit (and entire outfit!) was from Ted Baker.
Hotel/reception – We fell in love with The Bowdon Rooms in Altrincham as soon as we saw it. With a jazz club upstairs perfect for an intimate ceremony which also reflected our love of music and a huge airy hall with a sprung floor for the wedding breakfast and hours of dancing.
Cars – Little Limos provided Barney the campervan for the day!
